I agree with you. The problem I see with religion and government mixing is that usually, issues are seen as good or evil instead of fair or just.

Same sex marriage may sound fine if one views marriage as just a contract honored by the government and the parties involved like any other marriage. However, involve the religious view of marriage being between a man and a woman and suddenly this issue becomes unacceptable.

Indeed. I for one would not not get married in a church anyway....rather get a someone who can do it from the court...pay him a little something and get married on the beach if you ask me. For me getting married is no longer based on religion....for me it is making a promise to my partner and sharing it with friends and family. The churches have made it very very clear where we stand with them...thats why I am no longer religious. If I dont get married in your church then why do you care?!

When the non-conservative portion starts banging their rocks together louder than the loons. Unfortunately the moderates aren't easily driven to protest.
 
I want you, if you will, to think of this. Lets imagine Ray gets placed as head of religion in the cabinet, seat, 2 x BMW's, everything. And starts to put his view of religion forward. How soon will only those who belong to the Remedial Church, be the ones allowed to walk in public unmolested. The poor catholics and hindu's will have to wear pink crosses and cows on their clothes. You laugh, but that is what you get when you mix these two together, a belief system and a political system.
Example? Hitler and Nazi, Stalin and commie dogs, Far Right Fundi's and Bushes. Do you need more to say no in our country.

I agree fully. Religion must always be as far seperated as possible from politics and government...but hey....that is what you get when you go crawling into the churches looking for votes i guess.
 
Not to mention those little two faced idiots from the ADCP, who basically are putting up with the Muslim and Hindu religions for now. You want you government to work, do it on social issues, where a majority can agree on, not on the select few from old fiction.

self elected leaders, who try and speak for the minority is more how I see it , VF+ is a good example I remember the election posters :

It put me off directly from even considering to vote for them....

hell I am getting lost now, recap? Gay ok, but not in church, or politics, or is that bi-curious politics ? So how does one educate them. Just watched District 9, and I would how SA would have turned out if this really had happened 40 years ago. In other words, maybe we need a blockbuster gay movie to wake folks up out of their stupidity. Sorta give us a moffie Wikus to show the way.
 
I also remember those posters! Got excited when I saw a Afrikaans poster....read the message and then wanted to run for the hills! Scary stuff....any election poster that has got a religious connection sends shivers down my spine

And they could never understand how wrong they were. Had a corporal in the army like that, and being a durban boy, this whole swaart gevaar thing was totally alien to me. Asked him one day if he was talking about Indians, and he screamed that they where not a problem, but there was something worse than that.. I was young in those days and totally cluesless about things..

This idiot even threaten to have me charged for listening to Bob Marley, he thing was that is how they catch the young people can turn them to they anti-Christian ways. (Forget whether or not, I believed in the Christian god, that was a given seeing I was a white)
