Concrete time frames for undersea cable

There goes my hopes of ever playing a decent FPS with my cousin in the UK

The UK seems to go a lot faster, I get below 300ms to servers there, and on iBurst. Try pinging googe.co.uk or any other pingable site you find.

On a recent trip to the UK i pinged several international servers a number of times over a period of week and averaged about 34ms. I even pinged MyADSL.co.za and got below 40ms pings.

Does the 34ms include your traveling time to the UK to do your pings there?

...wondering about the UK 2 SA 34ms ping giving the maths stated earlier...

If the state of mathematics wern't so poor in South Africa, i would have advised you to go back to school.

It is PHYSICALLY & THEORETICALLY impossible to get 40ms from UK.

Average, I think not. Why don't you get on a little airplane, fly to the UK and prove me wrong?

hmmm...thats strange, according to the maths it seems impossible to get that ping between UK and SA

Shortest land distance between London and JHB = 9,027km (Assuming myadsl server in jozzie)

therefore theoretical ping time = 60ms

and applying a factor of at least 2 (to adjust for fibre cable and distance, since cable is not in a straight line)...ping should realistically be at least 120ms, assuming my maths are correct
