Using forum leads to
1) Get Closer 1 (phoned telkom, all closer plans have free installation) line installed @ R145 p.m
2) AFTER line is installed order ____k dsl line, select self install.
3) Buy _____adsl modem+router, don't want to sign contract.
4) Get 3BG p.m from Afrihost @ R87

How to get the phone and dsl line installed is not my issue. I just don't know which line and which modem to get!! I have read a lot of threads covering newbie FAQ to getting adsl and also the ones concerning which modems to get and I am very confused :erm: Please help

What line and modem should be enough if its me and one other person sharing the Internet and we use it for:
normal browsing, a lot of downloading large email attachments (work purposes, seriously legal docs is HUGE) + streaming videos (you-tube etc), some light online gaming. Will 512k be enough? (i can afford 4mb but dont want to bust the bank to get more than i need)

monthly budget is max R650 pm
Looking for good quality, ADSL 2+, wireless. For the router+modem my budget is Max R650. I'm in Joburg

thanx in advance

I would suggest going for the 384k line and using it for a month or two to see how it works for you. If it's too slow you can upgrade free of charge to a 512k (or even 4Mb, depending on your needs). Telkom only charges when you downgrade your speed.

yeah, once the line is installed it should be easy to upgrade to a faster line if you want, although 512k is not good value for money compared to the 4mb.
As for the router , something like this should be what u looking for. Might want to look around for a better price tho

Ok, makes sense to go for cheapest line, see how it runs and upgrade if required. Anybody know how long it takes to upgrade from lets say 384 to 512?

in your oppinion what is the best wireless router that you can get for under R700?

Current option:

any better deals?
