Confused over internal vs external hard drive prices

Hoping someone can shed some light here. Currently Incredible Corruption has a 4TB external on sale for R1.5k, the cheapest I can get an internal 4TB drive on Wootware is R2k for a Seagate 5900Rpm.

My confusion is because the same size drive is usually cheaper in external than internal versions. Why is that? surely an external should be more expensive as there is all the other stuff that needs to go into making an external drive?
 
Yeah it makes no sense, I bought a 6TB external drive for R1999, took it out of the case and installed in my PC, works great.
 
Yeah, a 2.5" 4TB drive for R500 less than a 3.5" 4TB drive. I just really dont get it. Is there maybe a difference in import duties or something on internal vs external or is it because of the drive type or what????

@Sarg3_ZN I considered doing that but doesnt that void the warranty? I also considered looking in places like Cash crusaders for a used Explora or something to salvage a drive from. Just need a decent sized drive for single player games where load times dont matter and to store photos/video on.

So get the external, USB3 should be fast enough for those requirements.

You don't know what kind of drive is inside that external.... but I have also salvaged drives from externals especially when the external case stops working

No clue why the price difference, drive inside is 3.5inch seagate barracuda

You can't always do that with the 2.5" models as some don't have sata ports, the usb controller is integrated into the drives.

Just something to keep in mind.
