Hi experts i am existing client of mwed since 2010 but i am not happy at all with speed have 10mb adsl from mweb but my highest speed is 400kbps and 1mbps if i use IDM.
Web africa gave me free 1gig trial username and pass and speed was still the same . i am in CBD and my line is supported for 10gig max.
Please guys help me to choose right ISP i am expecting 5mbps or higher speed.
Regards

Not sure changing ISP's is going to help with your speed if you didn't see an improvement with Web Africa, may be an issue with your line quality are you able to post your line stats?

Hi,
10Mbps is not the same as 10MBps, 1MB = 8Mb. (Byte vs bit, 1:8)
On a 10Mbps line you will get ~1MB/s download and 100kB/s upload after overheads.

I also have no clue what you mean by your line is supported 10 gig max.

You need to look at what your line is actually syncing at, not what you are paying Telkom for.

You sure you aren't getting 400 kilobytes per second and 1 megabyte per second? Because that sounds right for a 10 megabit line.

Also what is a 10 gig line? no such thing.

I'm guessing OP doesn't know how ADSL service is structured.

Hi Kashif,

Just want to make sure we're understanding you correctly here.
10mbps line = 1 Megabyte per second download speed, so your InternetDownloadManager is getting your full line speed worth, unless you mean you're only getting 100kb per second downloads.

Please post your speedtest.net results, then we can take it from there.

Sorry guys I made a mistake my line is 10mb syncing.and max downloading speed is 1mbps only with Internet download manager and without IDM it's only 100 to 400kbps.
Need help from you guys which company can give me batter speed ?

The issue is more likely your line. Please post your line stats so we can have a look.

I'd go Afrihost, Axxess, CW or Vox.

-First get a free account (I think they all offer this) and test which account gives you the best speeds.
-Then see how much data you are using (Phone Mweb or check the portal).
-Get a capped account that covers your data (plus 50-100gigs) and fits your budget.

The capped data doesn't have limits on how fast you can download so you should experience a drastic increase in download speeds. All the companies mentioned have uncapped from 12pm-6am (schedule big downloads for this time).

You will still only be getting 1mb/s download speeds MAX but should get this from 90% of the things you download.

People have got their bold in the wrong places...

You are paying for a 10 megaBIT line, and getting 1 megaBYTE download speed. This is NORMAL, it's a bit like metres and kilometres except there are 8 bits in 1 byte. So you need to divide your line speed you're paying for by 8 to get your download speed in bytes(the unit we usually using for hardrives and what most downloads will be shown in). ADSL then has overheads(data that is attached to any of the data you're actually downloading for complicated reasons), with these overheads your true max download speed in bytes is about a tenth of the linespeed you pay for, so divide it by 10.

This is what you are getting and is normal.

Mweb does throttle though(turn your speed down) on certain downloads so try a free account from another ISP to see if that's affecting you. But you won't get much more than a 1 megabyte download on any of them.

Crystal Web are the best ISP. Go with them. If they're too expensive for you then go with Afrihost.
