hey guys...

ive jus noticed how cheap the vodacom rates for 3G/HDSPA is. problem is i dunno wat modem to buy and whether it makes a diff to 3G or HDSPA? ive seen an offer from incredible connection for a vodacom modem tats R1999. and at the vodashop the same modem (i think) is R2700! are they both the same?

wat modem do i need to buy in order to make use of the 1.8mbps?

im plannin on utilising the prepaid option, wat i wanted to know is will i be able to purchase a 2gig bundle, and if its finished within d 30 day airtime window will i be able to purchase another one, and have an extended airtime window?

and after readin all d probs associated wit the service im beginin to get a lil sceptical abt buyin a modem and usin the vodacom service!!

i need some good info cause im a real newbie here.

Well firstly, most of the data cards are compatible to 1.8mbps (although you are aware that you wont actually get 1.8mbps). I would reccomend the Huawei E620 card as it has an external jack for an exterior antennae if one is required.

With prepaid you will have to buy airtime first then load the bundles through the *111# command. So, hence you will have an extended window depending on how much airtime you buy.

When you buy the modem just check thats its network locked or not. I got my card through MTN and have moved over to vodacom pre-paid (pricing cheaper). Just gotta wait for 3G to be activated on my sim then hopefully im good to go.

Hope this helps.

thanks acidrain...yup the info helps...hopefully will get my modem soon as well!!!

You have a better chance of winning the lotto this week than getting a reliable 1.8mbps FROM Vodacom.....

*** WHATEVER YOU DO,,,DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT WITH VODACOM.***

THE BILLS FOR A PSYCHOLOGIST WILL ADD A FURTHER R2000 TO YOUR BILL.

YOU MIGHT AS WELL TALK TO YOUR HAND THAN VODACOM SUPPORT.

Would you like to talk about it? ;)

Certainly an exaggerated unfair comment IMHO.

I'm using the E220 HSDPA modem. It connects via usb so it can be used on most pcs / notebooks. Only disadvantage is that it doesn't have an external antennae jack if you need to boost the signal. But overall it is a very good product indeed:D
