Hi there

if anyone can assist i will be most gratefull. im trying to connect my sisters pc to the net, but im having trouble with both vodacom and 8ta sims. i am pretty sure its a software issue as telkom managed to connect at their shop with decent speeds. and we both run off the same towers aswe are in the same area.

i have turned off firewall and removed antivirus. run ccleaner, advanced system care gone through lan settings, different browser and everything else i can think of.

both sims do the same thing. connection is made and data packets are sent but recieving is pretty much non existent

and ideas?

have you tried to resetting your browser?

yes and installed another browser. the problem lies with recieving data packets...

and i have no clue whats causing the issue. maybe a hijacked setting somewhere? i have run restore and various pc cleaners to try to maybe sort out. but to no avail

thanks though

OP please post modem model, software and on what computer

1. Un-install ALL modem software.
2. Reboot PC
3. Re-install modem software either Mobile Partner or Vodafone software NOT both!

If no joy on that, Click on RUN then START and type sfc.exe /scannow

You may need your Windows installation CD to hand when you do this!

If this fails install Windows XP SP3 and try again.

OP says connection is established, but no received packets.

Check first if DNS servers are working. Type "ipconfig /all" from the command prompt. Post here section PPP adapter (your name).

Try ping by known IP address, like google: 173.194.34.120
See if you get response.

If yes, use google DNS for dialup adapter: ( Pri 8.8.8.8 and Sec 8.8.4.4 ).

Try command "ipconfig /flushdns"
Edit: during connection

tried it and found dns resolver stopped. restarted it, connected to network and did 'cache purge' sucessfuly.

and still giving me a problem.... :'(. is this the part where i start breaking things lol.

thanks junky

I see you received error running above command. I am afraid, it is not going easy to fix. Tooo many things can cause it...

Found nice post for this problem (when ping by IP address works), I can't help much, but I see you have quite good orientation, if you follow this, I am sure you will be successful.

I tried to compile a list of everything that works on this in order of likelihood of success:

1) virus / worm

unwise.exe, a phony Windows Antivirus program, and a rootkit named tdss may have caused this problem.

run gmer, combofix, and malwarebytes to clean the computer up.

2) Uuninstall Norton products with symantec removal tool (an old symantec install may have left deviant code.) Norton may have bits and pieces left on teh disk, use Norton Removal Tool at http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 to get EVERYTHING. McAfee, Trend Micro, and Zone Alarm have all been causes of this proble, seemingly due to a conflict with a windows update. Using approrpaite uninstallers or teh Add/Remove Programs Control Panel, you may want to uninstall your Anti-Malware entirely; disabling alone may not be adequate.

3) Try to 'telnet google.com 80', 'ipconfig /renew' from the command line, or right click the connection icon and select "Repair".
If either of those give you a weird error, then it's probably winsock corruption (Which only affects TCP, so i.e.: PING works (IP only), but a TCP connection does not)
Run winsockfix or follow directions at: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811259

4) The Cisco VPN client has sabotaged browsing in one case. If you use it, reinstalling it may help.

5) Replace hosts.ini with only 127.0.0.1 as an entry.

6) Ensure no proxies have been set if you don't have any. In internet explorer, click tools > internet options. Then click connections and LAN settings. Remove the checkbox for 'use a proxy server'.

7) Revert to an older driver (or upgrade to another.) You may need to run winsockfix again

8) Set BIOS to defaults to undo any overclocking

9) At cmd prompt, type: ipconfig /flushdns

thanks so.much for the advice.

came right with a sp3 install. gonna start cleaning out the closet now

appreciate the time taken to sort me out.
thanks
