connecting ps3 to billion router/internet

hi everyone

I could really use some help regarding hooking up my ps3 to my billion 7300gx router. this router can connect with both adsl and has a PCMCIA card slot for 3g data cards.
Im just a newbie regarding networking so its really tough getting it to work. I've connected my desktop and laptop successfully to the router. they both able to access the net through the router. i haven't shared files between them yet.
I use a 3g data card in this router as i dont have adsl yet. i basically need the ps3 to be able to get internet access so i can fully use it...

anyone managed to connect it to the net or know of a solution?
 
thanks for brilliantly fast reply.

the PS3 does get an IP address from the router. when the console searches for an IP addy, it always comes back successful. the next step is when it tests the internet connection, and that always fails due to some dns problem...
 
did that. still can't get it to work. gonna try resetting my router to factory settings then trying to see what happens. also emailed billion to get support from them. will try to post their solution (if any) when they reply, just to make it easier for ours.

Okay so your PS3 is seeing the router which is a good thing.

Does the router have a built in firewall?
It may be blocking the required ports as well check out http://portforward.com/ and see if you need to change something..
I had to put static DNS IP's into my console to get it to work as well so try that.

thanks so much. will try that and let you guys know what happens. it seems that the error im getting( its code is 80710102) is a common one worldwide. sony maintains that its an isp issue. on the net people have found some solutions work and some dont. but not one works for everyone. however, it seems like the solution lies in altering your dns settings somehow.
like i said earlier im just posting here so when i get the solution, others will benefit too.
many forums suggest replacing the router brand. linksys seems to be trouble free. but that doesnt help in SA cos routers are not that cheap.

does anyone know where i can get static dns addys from and maybe see if those work?
also, if i do get the static dns codes, do i input them into my router and the ps3 or just the ps3?

lol don't tell people I am helping a PS3 owner ;) what would people think...

Seriously though I use these DNS addresses.
196.43.46.190
196.43.38.190

You input those into your PS3, not your router... your router is fine if you are browing this site through it...

i will surely post the solution, if i ever find one.
however, nothing seems to work. i've tried dozens of dns addresses, reconfigured everything, and it still wont connect.

im getting feedback from Billion right now, so hopefully that will resolve it...
 
I have heard rumours about 3G blocking some traffic.
The 360 sometimes says it has a strict NAT due to this and then you need to contact your service provider and ask them for a private VPN or something? :confused:

I could have it all wrong but hey it's an idea ;)
 
how fast is internt on ps3

is the internet on the ps3 as fast as the internt connection you have got on your pc
and how fast are downloads on the ps2 store does it depend on where you live:p
 
I did think that maybe 3g wouldn't allow ps3 type traffic onto it. I think what i'll do is take the console over to my buddy's house, who has adsl and see if i can connect there....

im not sure of ps3 download speeds. guys overseas say its slower than pc broadband, but thats a relative concept especially here in SA...

Well it really should be the same, however the PS3's web browser has quite a few known issues so it doesn't really replace the one on your PC yet.

I have heard the downloads from the PSN store are fast, but then again it depends on how many people are trying and how good your local connection is for the day.

The PS3 shares my wireless router - I get the same speed from PS3 or my PC. Download speed is great whether from SA, UK or USA PSN stores. Just started downloading Folklore demo (1.1 GB) - easily done by morning on my 512 ADSL line.
 
SOLUTION!!!! sort of....

finally solved the issue. very simple. like budget insurance, just cut out the middle man...

1. buy PCMCIA card and install into pc.
2. allow internet sharing on 3g connection.
3. connect ps3 directly to pc wired or wirelessly. preferably wired. faster plus more stable.
4. go to ps3 network settings> internet connection and let it detect everything automatically.
5. Voila!!!
6. figure out what to do with the router (paper weight?), bemoan the R1600 spent thats technically wasted, and wonder when ps3 gonna get a dance mat!!!

seriously though, thanks all for all the help....
