HI Guys - - - - -This is the most bizarre thing ever---especially the Modem part.

Let the troubleshooting begin

Network: VodaCom
Phone:Nokia 5800.....but please help it might be network or APN setting which should be same for all Symbian's
OS: Windows 7 32 and 64 bit Ultimate

I know there were issues with the initial Nokia 5800's, i think I might have the same problem now, however it did work before.

My 3G takes about 1-2 minutes to connect...in full 3.5g area, so long that Ovi Maps time out. Usually it connected in less than 5 secs.

I have tested 2 SIM Cards in phone, no luck, only after about 2mins I get connected and then I can use it.

Tested in different phone both work.

PHONE Issue Recap

3G work on phone, but takes VERY long to connect.

PHONE as modem Issue

When I use my phone as modem, AGAIN after 2 mins it connects, BUT NO ACCESS to internet, cant browse at all.

:D Now the strange part....:D

If i connect to PC via GPRS (gsm) it connects immediately (less than 5secs) and I can browse...if I then change Network to 3G (Dual Mode) whilst connection is active, it switches to 3G and I can browse at full 3G speeds.

WHAT IS UP WITH THAT??

I'ts only the initial connection to 3G that seems to be messed up. Any ideas???

Please help me!

Thanx so much for replying....come on boys don't be shy here.

Running latest firmware, thought of downgrading and then upgrading to newest firmware, but that seems like a huge mission.

Running V40

No Boys, Any ideas??

I think a trip to Vodashop is in order. The phone is less than a month old.

Will they replace or repair?
What costs will be applicable?

I'm pretty sure it's Software related or a setting, but i've tried everything, even Soft and Hard resetting... Nothing worked.

Nokia 5800 connection blues

Hi
Im having exactly the same issue with my 5800XM
After the latest software upgrade I cant connect via bluetooth to the internet using the phone as a modem. I can browse via the phone however and have also tried what u said re connecting via gsm first and mine also works.
Ive spoken to the Vodashop and they tell me they dont recommend customers using Nokia's software. They also informed me that if they try downgrade a phone it dies and that the phone would have to go to Jhb for assesment??

I am awaiting their response

Got a 5800 myself. Use Joikuspot (WiFi hotspot app) uses wireless in reverse somehow- I connect to shared conenction on phone from laptop via wireless. Works well.

I also noticed when using the USB cable that the connection manager tries MTN SA 3G or whatever by default. I have a SAINET 3G bundle linked to my SIM, so I had to remove those default settings then apply my own- perhaps yours need updating. Call SP and see what settings they recommend you use.

I have already tried my Sim in a 3g USB dongle and it works fine there, no connection problems at all, come to think of it its more stable at 3g speed too...Unfortunately I use my phone's 3g via my home pc too and it doesn't have wireless :(. I just basically want Nokia to resolve the issue seeing as its them that messed it up in the first place. I also cant understand why the Vodashop says they don't like their customers downloading updates from Nokia... WTF?

...and thank you for this, idiot dude at Vodacom wanted to CONVINCE me it's my 3g Area... lol.

Cheers

Thats Crazy!!! What a chop that Vodacom chap is
Ive already tried my SIM in another 3g USB Dongle and it connects fine!
Thats the whole problem with Vodacom, they force you to speak to ppl that dont understand what you are telling them or dont have enough experience.
Needless to say Nokia was very interested to know that Vodacom does not want their subscribers to use Nokia's software update service.
My automated response from Nokia reads as follows:

"Thank you for contacting Nokia.
You will be receiving a reply from one of our Customer Care Representatives within the next 48 hours."

I am not holding my breath...

Hi dude, thanks for the reply, i'm going to try this soon.
Hopefully it will work!

Will let you know what the result is.

Have a good week.

Further info:
I used the method this weekend (switching the phone to GSM only then connecting and manually changing back to Dual)
What I noticed is that during my browsing the connection dropped, (my pc is set to automatically re-dial if dropped) and when it re-connected, the 3g came up fine...???

Have tried the above, unfortunately still no luck for me...will keep on trying though!

HI Krypt..
Have you happened to check if any of your installed apps have gone bonkers? I found that my opera browser and facebook were screwed, removed them and will try again at home to connect later tonight..

Currently soooooooooooo busy with work, not really using that many apps, however those I do use seem to be fine.

I still have the same issue, but apparently some of the other Nokia users have the same prob.

Same issue here with my 5800, also have V40 firmware installed.

Found this today, connecting through windows without using any of Nokia's connection managers. Will try it tonight.

This is how I always used to connect but it does not work anymore, I never used Nokai software to connect from my pc. What will happen is you get a connection but you will not be able to browse...
