Connecting to 3G, Using phone as modem

This is how I always used to connect but it does not work anymore, I never used Nokai software to connect from my pc. What will happen is you get a connection but you will not be able to browse...

Thanks for the heads up, the trouble started after I updated the firmware to V40. I'm tempted to flash it back to an older version if it'll sort the problem out.

Can connect via Nokia OVI Suite, but can't browse. On-phone browsing and downloading is not a problem. Could it be the cable drivers or modem drivers on the PC?

I'm also having the same problem.
I could always use my 5800 as a modem via usb cable. About 2 weeks ago, it stopped working.
I connect the cable, prompts me for connection type (pc suite/data transfer etc) - then 5 seconds later the connection is lost.
Using bluetooth worked for a while, but now although I can see the phone in PC suite, when I try to connect, it says cant establish connection...
I've also used the sim in a 3g modem without problems
Using FW 50.0.005.

Anyone with ideas?

Well, we've narrowed the problem down to the phone and later firmwares. Worked perfectly under V30, I wouldn't know which version to download though.
