Good evening all.

Trying to do as the title says, have searched the forum found a few threads but nothing really helps me, need a detailed how to :)

Both home & work have adsl, both with the same Netgear DG834GT router.

Have got a dyndns account & hostname (*****.homedns.org) but other than that i dont know, would like to use a program like Ultra VNC to connect.

Normally get lost on the whole port forwarding thing.

Whats next?

Ultra VNC listerns on port 5900.

So, the router at your home must be configured to forward all incoming connections on port 5900 to your PC. Once this is done, soft-reboot the router (save usually does this).

Then, on your PC, you must allow access to the Ultra VNC on port 5900 in whatever firewall programs you are running.

Then, at work, they must allow you direct access to the internet from your computer on any port to anywhere on the internet to port 5900.

That should be it.

how do i set my router to forward incoming connections?

MS Remote desktop, add your user acc to the your work machines remote dektop users group, get your works registered ip/ internet ip, type that in as the machine name, it should work, if not only then look at forwarding port 3389 for tcp/udp on your router and the work router open port 3389 to allow RDP

I use this little proggie... http://www.logmein.com/

They have a free version. I like it cos it just works with minimal set up fuss!

You set up a client on each PC you want to be able to access... and then access them from your browser when you want to log in.

It is pretty seamless.

The free version is limited in that you can't do direct File Transfer (but there are other programs you can use for that... like Pando... or a webFileHost)

I even use it to work on some of my friends computers when they need help with their computers.

Each computer gets its own password (and you can even disable the client when you are not using it).

You won't find anything easier.... honestly!

Dude, click start > All Programs > Accessories > Communications > Remote Desktop Connection.

sorted.

logmein is a trial thing ,and they say after the trial expires you can only have remote access..does this mean no filesharing..k@k

um... like I said a few posts up there... The free version works just fine but has no file-sharing... but that problem is easily overcome by using Pando, or any web-based file storage service, or just by e-mailing the file to yourself. I've been using it since 2005 and it works great. it is not a "Trial" version... that is only for the Pro Version... they do offer a completely free version. If you absolutely need the file transfer, don't know why... but the monthly cost is well worth it for the ease of use.

just want to add.. that text based cut and paste also works fine on the free version.. as does file transfer on the client network. You are only restricted from transferring files to yourself.
