Connecting two 'puters, Mac and PC

I've looked through the forum and I can't find an exact answer to this problem.

We have two computers at home, a Mac Desktop (OSX) and a Windows 2kPro laptop. We would like to connect both of them and share the connection. My understanding is that if we get two modems we can only surf one at a time, which is not ideal.

So, how hard would it be to set up some sort of sharing? Could the Mac act as a server (using the laptop is difficult, because I often take it to work)? Would we need a hub, or worse, a router? Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Speaking under correction, would it not be possible to get a switch (with a WAN port for the modem) and connect the two computers to the switch?

If one gets a wireless access point type switch, then all you need is wireless networking.

Having said all that, I have never actually done it, but read a few posts somewhere about the scenario. How it applies to the MyWireless modem on the switch/access point I am not sure though. Does one need special software on the PC's if you go via the Ethernet cable? Or will some standard PPPoE type drivers / software work?

It's hardly "guru" stuff, but here goes.

MacOSX has got internet connection sharing features. What you'll need is a hub, or switch to connect the modem (via the R250 ethernet cable) the PC, and the MAC onto a single network.

Then you configure the MAC to do the Internet Connection as described in http://rodent.za.net/MyMacintosh
