Hi forumites, hope someone can help.

I have been using a GPRS data card for the last month or two, I decided to go and buy an MTN Sim today to check out if I got a better connection than I've been getting with Vodacom's GPRS (which works but isn't exactly fast....)

However I can't seem to get it to work with my data card - I've tried doing the "dialup thing" (but I get a message saying no dial tone) and I've also tried using the Vodafone dash and creating a new profile for MTN - that too fails to connect.

Any suggestions?

I've tried listening to a host of the messages on the MTN helpline number, none of them actually say much, I tried dialling 1555 (which the help menu directed me too, but this just sent me off on another wild message-listening chase...) and I've PM'd MTNBB but no response so far so hoping someone else can help...

Thanks

Well if you get that working [i can only assume it's a Vodafone 3G card] i'd like to know too, would be truly amusing, considering it'll mean one can jump between networks whenever the one is cheaper than the other.....

Also keep in mind EDGE do not work on those cards (as far as i know) [only GPRS and 3G].

If you are getting the 'no dial tone' message while using a dialup account in windows (ie - set it up as dialup) then you can change your settings slightly so that windows doesn't wait for a dial tone

Brooko and Diabolus - it's a GPRS ONLY card bought overseas (so EDGE and 3G are not options). It is sold as being not locked to any network. (It in fact allows me to accept MTN as the network, but I then can't connect - it tries but fails.)

Kilps - I'll try that thanks.

Success (sort of)!

Hi all, just to let you know that after doing the *123*14# (or was it 13, can't remember now), and using the Dashboard, I can connect. I can't connect using the Windows dial-up route - I keep getting messages saying the computer or device on the other side is not answering - that's trying *99# and *99***1#.
Maybe its to do with those other strings you mention in your post, MTNBB, but I have to confess I don't know where to go to input those other bits and bobs... But in any event, I can connect in 1 form, so thanks!
