I'm on 1MB Telkom line and I'm using a Mego 100WR router. I just started playing on this line but my latency is around 2000 to US servers and I get DC's every few minutes.

I never get disconnected while surfing the web but it keeps on happening in WoW.The internet light on the router dies for a second and my connection gets dropped.

I'm using a openweb shaped account but even so I can't understand how my latency is that high.I've done a few speed tests and I get between 3-3.8MB/s.

I've phoned Telkom and they did a line test and checked their logs and told me that my line and that has never been a disconnect from their side.I think the router might be responsible for the DC's but what about the latency?

Just reformatted my PC on the off chance that it was a software problem but it had no effect.

Are there settings that I can tweak to improve my latency?

Openweb accounts run on IS which does have a higher latency because its routed via satellite instead of SAT3. Shouldn't be that high though.

sounds like a problem in the actuall connection running to overseas servers and lines,Maybe something is wrong along its way towards the US.

might not be your fault

what ISP u using? could even be them.

Im on the Openweb 5GB account(IS-5GB). Syndyre seems to be right by saying it's because of the IS.

The accoount gives you 30GB local but I never use it so it's a bit of a waste for me.The service has been excellent at openweb but the lag is killing me.

I'm going to move to another ISP soon, I just need to decide which one to move to. Unshaped would be nice but it's pricey :( The imaginet freestyle sounds good and I've heard the they give good latencies but who do you recommend?

thought so

i had a shaped account with telkom when i first got my ADSL,latency was like yours... AWFUL.

changed ISP to SAOL 4 gig unshapped and bobs your uncle....:D

Hi, I have noticed that when the wow server detects that there are too many packet losses it will disconnect you. This seems possible if your ping is already aroound 2k ms.

If you like your openweb account keep it, but maybe get a second prepaid account that uses unshaped saix, 1GB account just for playing wow could prob last you way more than 2 monts if you use another account to download patches etc. I am using WebAfrica, and though the latency aint perfect (500 ms avg) it is atleast stable and I stay connected while having no problems yet in raids.

I get the same thing! It's very random too. Some days it will stay up for days, then without warning it'll drop every 5-20mins (until I phne Telkom to do a 'test' - BAM! suddenly no problem). ADSL light switches off and starts to flash and then reconnect. Rinse and repeat. I play many other games, and as odd as it sounds, this only happens while playing WoW (could be coincidence).

I phoned Telkom for the 50th time regarding same issue. I'm glad the techy acknowledged that there was a problem and will do some tests on the line. I don't even stay far from the exchange either.

Regarding your ping problem; First check for spy-ware.
Then try an unshaped Now! (prepaid) account from axxess or any other ISP. The axxess one lasts up to 6 months or until you reach your cap, though luckily WoW takes as little as 2.5mb an hour ;)
