Connection Problems - SA Websites

Just noticed it must be an Telkom problem as per usual. When I connect with an IS account - all work great. When I use my Telkom account those sites are dead:eek:
Also can't access telkom.co.za

DON'T USE SAIX DNS SERVERS

Saix DNS servers are 196.25.1.11 & 196.43.1.11 and setting your DNS to those servers give problems accessing some sites sometimes.

News24 is fine but i cant access absa unless i disable my proxy, when disabled it works fine

Can you/anyone please suggest other DNS servers to use...?

I am experiencing browsing issues, aswell as mail & ftp access problems. TelkomADSL, durban.

Primary DNS: 196.25.255.34
Secondary DNS: 196.25.255.3

Also on saix, same problem. Local sites are either slow or I can't connect at all. Its reverse capping!

Not sure if this is going to be useful to anyone, but I've found that changing the DNS servers sorted out the browsing issue, but I still have no mail or ftp access to certain locations (local and international). :(

Funny. I use those and don't have a problem. Maybe there's some other problem in your set up?

The problem is not dns related. I can resolve the ip addresses of the sites I can't connect to fine. The problem seems to be a routing issue on the SAIX network. It might be a regional problem because not everyone is affected .

This is the first time I'm experiencing these problems with Absa and News24,s site, and I hav'nt changed any DNS or Proxy settings.
I basicly access these sites on a daily basis. Telkom/SAIX is probably screwing around again.

Plenty problems with SAIX today. Had clients phoning me from all over.

Changing the DNS setings on their PCs solved the problem.

It seems as tho changing settings only on a PC isn't enough to fix this problem properly. I just changed the DNS settings (to 196.25.255.34 & 196.25.255.3) in the POTS router config and everything seems to be working OK again.

Will have to wait and see how long it lasts.

The problem is with SAIX but it is made worse by Windows XP (and possibly routers) caching the failed DNS request. Getting your clients to use alternate DNS addresses, not directly supported may just lead them to have problems further down the line when those IP addresses are reassigned to a non DNS server.

Just for interest sake, ask you clients what operating system they are using ;)
