Conservatives and Genetic Fear

John F. Kennedy defined a liberal as follows:
“ ...someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a 'Liberal', then I’m proud to say I’m a 'Liberal'.[4]

If anyone wishes to slot me into a box then the Kennedy quote above, provided by Wizard is spot on for me. I was brought up that way and that's the way I have always approached life, so there's no point in trying to talk me out of it at my age, thank you very much. :p

You will also completely ignore the fact that Japanese were put into isolation camps in EVERY country belonging to the Allies - as were groups belonging to Axis powers (Germans and Italians) - but that doesn't suit your agenda.

I can verify that! My German grandparents were interned in SWA because SA was with the allies.

Thanks Palimino and my dad had to "guard' Italian friends of his in Northern Rhodesia (Zambia) during the War. It happened in all Allied countries.

Don't get confused, natural selection may have well selected it for a purpose, and more over that purpose may well not be a definitive part of the movement that people tend to associate with this single value. Movements have plenty values, some good some bad, this may only be a single one.

I think you’re right. It seems a powerful survival characteristic to fear ‘change’ and new things. Stick with tradition and with what works. It has been generalised across to political thought but is not inherently bad.

Expanding on that, an argument could be made that in times of instability and trouble, the Democrats are the best choice because of their ability to adapt, innovate and generally make a plan. In times of stability and the routine running of a country, the Republicans may be the best choice.

As if liberals and the global warming "environmentalists" have been innocent in this regard

Indeed and anybody who doesn't toe the line is an "evil, racist, gay hating, corporate goon ,warmonger" .

Of course they never feared mad bob

The only thing that frustrates me about Robert Mugabe is that he is so damned incorruptible," Andrew Young, Jimmy Carter's ambassador to the United Nations

Or the Nazis

Churchill's warnings earned him only ridicule and a reputation as a paranoid warmonger.

Or the the ANC. Nobody dare doubt the good intentions of the liberation party of the greatest man who walked the earth to comrade Wiz and Fazda.

But it's ironic that they now quote JFK somebody who feared the commies so much he brought the world to the brink of nuclear war.

Wizard is obviously not up to date with European politics. In the most European elections there has been a shift to right-wing parties as more and more people are realising how left-wing parties don't give a hoot about their native populations and instead promote massive immigration.

Alan will you please grow up! This total lie is probably 99.9% true of all of the other cr@p that you spout. I have never supported the bloody ANC nor do I ever intend to.

Theres that fear again. Keep is coming, its what you do. You are scared. This is why you are being xenophobic :D

Sigh,

The "exciting" correlation was found by scientists at University College London who scanned the brains of two members of parliament and a number of students.

I kid you not.

The word "premature" comes to mind.

Depends on the sample size of the students. How many members of parliament that did this is irrelevant. Do you have the figures of the students to call this premature? Or are you just basing that opinion on the two celebrity samples?

here

Prof Rees and his team, who carried out the research for the Today programme on BBC Radio 4, looked at the brain make up of the Labour MP Stephen Pound and Alan Duncan, the Conservative Minister of State for International Development using a scanner.

They also questioned a further 90 students, who had already been scanned for other studies, about their political views.

That is a small sample. There is definitely space for another study to confirm or disprove this one. The difference in size of the brain parts must be pretty significant to make such a call on a sample size this big. Its not tiny, but its not big. 90 people is still a decent amount.

oh god, not this genetic crap again :p

why does everything have to be about genes these days? what happened to choice? :D :p

Did you choose to be a male? Or was it your genes?

lol

some things are left to genes, but what ice cream i am going to eat or what sexual partner i am going to choose has **** all to do with my genes :p
if we're going to say certain people with inferior views have inferior genes, we might as well go back to the whole "my race is superior" stories as it's the same thing
