Hey all,

We recently got showmax and up to now I've had a 60GB anytime and 1TB midnight to 6:00 capped package. Last week we hit the 60GB limit and I upgraded to the 100GB anytime package but were just about there again. So it would seem I will need to go for an uncapped package. I've got a 4Mbps (syncing at 5Mbps but downloading at 4Mbps) ADSL line.

I am currently with Webafrica who I've been very happy with. I see Openweb has a special on their uncapped lines that says 'no data usage limits'. The uncapped guys are all the same I guess - star rating so if you watch too much VOD in the day your gonna get throttled. MWEB, Webafrtica and Openweb are all close to price with Openweb having the special now for R199 and with those special terms.

Telkom and Vox are too expensive.

What you guys think?

Try setting Bandwith Capping under Settings to medium if you haven't already, limits data to 0.78GB/hr (doesn't work with Chromecast).

Yep - just read up on openweb...will stay away.

Where do set this bandwidth capping? Is this on the webafrica web interface?

Oh I did that...got it set to the low setting...up to 300Mbps per hour but it still chows insanely. WIll prob just go for the webafrica uncapped and see how that goes

That's a lot of TV viewing :)

Reckon Telkom uncapped which resets usage on the 1st of month is your best bet as you're likely to be caught out by the rolling window formula some of the cheaper uncapped accounts use.

Be careful, uncapped accounts aren't uncapped.... I learnt the hard way that after two weeks of showmax my uncapped contract became all but entirely un-usable. Yeah, thanks for the correction, to appease the advertising standards board it's throttled, not capped..... Well, at 300k/sec it might as well be hard capped..... It takes ages to even open a Web page.... 100 gigs doesn't go far, and that's roughly where mweb throttles.

Uncapped is anything except the word. I remember back in 2013 I had a 10MB uncapped MWEB premium account they actually gave me up to 1TB that I could download a month. FFWD to today have a 4MB uncapped account at crystalweb. Download 600GB on my 4MB account and got penalized for a whole month so far. It BS, they say its uncapped but isnt really. They softcap the **** out of you.

Well to cancel Webafrica takes two months (you have no support during this time) so you have lots of time.

You only need 150-200 gig package and the companies you should be looking at Afrihost, Axxes, Crystal Web and Vox.

If you want a uncapped package you need a premium uncapped account.

Think I am going to use this new month and see how much we use in the month on the uncapped package...then perhaps look to move to a capped package that will cater for the gigs we use. I am not a fan of 'uncapped either' but was stuck between a rock and a hard place with it being semi close so month end, long weekend and school holidays. Topping up at R/MB is not worth it.

That's a pretty decent limit... 50% more than the MWeb limit
