:confused:hi all, I'm seriously considering a switch from mweb to afrihost by downgrading my mweb to 1 Gb (so as not to lose email address) whilst I check out Afrihost. How would you suggest I do this with only one router and ADSL line? Apologies if I seem a bit Doff.
Thanks.

When you decided to have an email addy with your ISP you navigated yourself into a cul-de-sac, sorry to say.

I'd go and make a new email with some other mail service and forget about my old one. You can change over slowly by responding to all incoming mails with giving out your new addy. Do that for a month or so and you should be covered. Anyhoo, you don't need to be logged in with Mweb to do so. Just use a clever email program like Thunderbird and you can manage both addressses from one nifty application. Free email providers are Gmail (yes, I know Gooogle is the evil), GMX, Hotmail and others.

You can keep your mail account with mweb but cancel all other services, I think they charge something like R30/40, not sure.

NEVER EVER rely on a ISP email account because as you can see it will only bite you in the ass.

Next step is to sign up for a independent email service like gmail for example. Gmail allows you to collect mail from other isp servers so you can tell it to fetch the mail from the mweb server and put it in your gmail account. Now when you reply to one of these mails fetched from the mweb server the recipient will now see you new gmail address, his address hopefully adds a new entry and when he replies back to it's to the new gmail address. This way you also don't have to worry about setting up two accounts in your email client.

Once you've changed all your online information wrt your new email address, banks, financial institutions, shopping sites, forums etc you should send out a mail every two weeks for a period of 2-3 months informing everybody in your address book of your address change. After this period cancel the mweb email account.

I can't speak for the other side of this, but I'll be happy to chat to you about signing up with us.

Drop me a PM - maybe we can chat about a nice discount off your first month with us :)

Hi, sorry to see the Flack you've been fielding recently, have to say "well handled".
Have been with Mweb for several years now and consider its time to change. I'm a late 70's surfer using my PC and iPad and use between 50-80 Gb per month including skype and VoipStunt . I have the 2 Gb uncapped package but Telkom still handles my adsl line. I still need to keep my Mweb email for about 2 months. What package would you recommend to satisfy my needs and please advise pros/cons of you guys having my line as well.

It's all part of the job description. I totally understand that sometimes things are not as awesome as they expect them to be (believe me, we're more disappointed than anyone when this happens).

We have excellent capped, business and uncapped bundles, so it's really about what kind of traffic you are mostly interested in. If you need to torrent and download at full speed whenever you want to, then you might want to go with an unshaped product like capped or business dsl. If you're more interested in real time services like Skype, and don't want to ever think about how much you're using (and don't mind the occasional slow download) then uncapped is very good (and affordable) option. Depending on your line speed, you can get a really attractively prices bundle from R297 (for 1Mbps) so we'll definitely have something that will work for you.

On moving your line over to us, obviously the best benefit is being able to bundle up and save quite a bit on your monthly fees. We also become your first call for DSL issues, and we deal with front-line support for your line. So it gives us a lot more options to ensure that you get the very best possible performance on your line and data.

Drop me a PM, and let's chat a little more.

Moving from MWEB

Thanks.

You can also take the option of a mailbox only at MWEB while checking out Afrihost. See my experience with Afrihost and thats why I went back to MWEB. I kept my e-mailaddy. It is only about R40pm.

Not worth changing a addy just to find you not happy with the new ISP and you wanna go back or move on.

If you use any mail program you just do the correct server settings - it does not matter which ISP you using to connect to the internet . Voda, cellc, mtn, any ADSL etc.
