I'm thinking of downgrading my 6MB (was 10MB until Telkom 'upgraded' it :() capped line to a 1MB uncapped line.

I currently have a 6MB / 15Gb Titan1 package from WA.

After downgrading I would switch to a 1MB / uncapped, also from WA.
  • I 'm at work during the day, so a mainly after-hours package would suit me fine.
  • I don't do much streaming, and anything that I do stream could easily be downloaded before watching.
  • I do download the occasional show, which could be scheduled for after midnight (if necessary)
  • The uncapped is also appealing for things like listening to Internet radio
Any thoughts / suggestions would be welcome.

PS It looks as though I can save if I switch my line to WA. Anyone have any experience of WA as their 'carrier' ?

actually downgraded from 6mb to 1mb wa uncapped the other day :p

only difference is big images takes long to load, my browsing is still snappy and pings is good.

You can stream 480p smooth or i do most of them.

downloading is about 480mb or so a hour running at max.

I downgraded my Mweb account from 4 to 1 Mbps. Not too happy with it. My youtube vids take long to stream now. Torrents that used to finish downloading during the midnight hours now take days to finish. If you can afford it stay on the faster lines. You should switch your ADSL line over to your provider though as this will save you money and some effort should you run into a problem.

@Superspeed: what is your monthly bandwidth usage on Torrents ? I do mainly TV shows, less than 15GB a month.

I am about 1km from the exchange, so my 6MB runs very well. Hell, my 10MB ran very well until Telkom 'upgraded' me

So I expect to max out a 1MB line without much effort.

I rarely watch YouTube, but if I do I have a downloader.

And if I download anything else (e.g. torrents) overnight I can't see much of a problem downgrading.

If you are not in Cape Town as well, just thread lightly on heretic's statement.

My experience is that they are mostly the only ones getting decent speeds through WA, due to their proximity to them.

In PTA you cannot even stream a 360p Youtube clip on a 4Mb/s line without it stopping and starting a hundred times.

I'm in Johannesburg, and I rarely experience YouTube streaming problems. Are you perhaps having line issues ?
