Console Fanboy Wars are....ROFL

I prefer my RPG's more than FPs, but the games that I have at the moment on the 360 are must have titles!

Woohoo! RPG's FTW! :D

I'm a gamer first, and a PC-afficionado second. I love games a lot. RPGs especially since the backbone of any good game is its storyline. Unfortunately, truly great RPGs are few and far between. Fallout, Planescape, Arcanum, Gothic, Oblivion, Neverwinter and Baldur's Gate have been, arguably, the most phenomenal for years. Again, personal opinion :p

Perhaps it's merely my experience with consoles that leaves something to be desired, but I fail to see the "wow" in it. There have been some great RPGs for consoles over the years - it's what inspired me to get one on the first place. But to me, a PC just seems more detailed and more innovative. People get to fiddle, add things, take things and manipulate things in games on a computer.

And yeah, perhaps the only way to really get zero framerate issues on a computer is to have some "hardcore" computer, but eh, if it means that much to a person, you work and save towards it. Kinda why a lot of PC-fanboiz are so fundamental about them - they put a farkload of love into it.

The thing I like about using a mouse to "look around" with, is that if you move the mouse rapidly, the perspective moves rapidly. With a controller, it's pretty much either slow or kind-of-fast. Its sensitivity is limited. It's something that personally bugs me, but I understand that it doesn't bug a lot of other people, so hey, no problem.

When I first heard about Mass Effect, I was stunned beyond belief. It was a game made by my favourite company (BioWare) who all come from either Troika or Black Isle or some other company with their own cult-following. For the first time I thought, "Crud, time to save for an XBOX" To me, Mass Effect was the only game to date that could ever have persuaded me to get an XBOX. All because of the wondrous sensationalism reviewers gave that game. I have yet to really play it, and I look forward to it.

I bought my PS2 and PS3 because of Final Fantasy. It was the one series I always wanted to get my hands on and say I own. So, naturally, I eventually went a little nuts and went on a shopping spree. I was incredibly disappointed in the FFX series because it completely destroyed what FF was to me with rubbish voice acting and the most ridiculous excuse for a story-line - again, in my own personal opinion.

I'm glad I bought my consoles, and I'm glad I played the games I always wanted to play, and I'll always buy games for them unless the same games come out for PC simply because, to me, a computer is better at gaming than a console. A console is limited to what its manufacturers put into it. A computer is limited to what you put into it. And if it's important to you, you work towards it. *shrug* Saying "It's too expensive to upgrade" when you're willing to fork R600 out per game and R4000 per console, is sort of contradictory :p

I'd probably prefer a 360 to my PS3, and might even go ahead and get one if any games come out for it that I know for a fact will never be ported to the PC. After all - Jade Empire was one of the games that I always wanted to play, and it came out in a Special Edition for the PC :D It's one of my favourite games to date and will likely remain that way.

One thing about a computer though - and this might sound ridiculous, but I consider it true - you never have to worry about backwards compatibility :p Someone always finds a way :D Look at DOSBox :p

I shall argue your point before you run away!

Currently, PC games are being made for PC after console games?

GTA for example... it goes to show, PC is loosing its influence.

*flees*

My apologies, Optioncarduser, I had assumed that console games are still developed on computers. :p

But in one respect you are right. Strokes and Folks. The 50's are long gone, but some okes still like to spend their weekends modding & tweaking their Cortina's and their Sierra's, while the rest of us just drive cars.

...lol :D
But mostly cause I dont understand half of what happens "under the hood"...
I prefer to just sit down play and enjoy, which is what I believe it should be to begin with...

The games that you mentioned (Baldurs etc) are all the games that I fell in love with and played year in and year out on my PC.
However, there are so may RPGs coming to the console, Last Remnant by Square Enix, Fallout 3 by Bethesda, Infinite Undiscovery by Square Enix, Sacrad 2 etc etc etc.

Ouch, guess I'm on my own here but err.... PC FTL!!!!!! :p

Just kidding, but seriously for me it's console....All the games I want to play don't even exist on PC or they just don't work well. I'm a real fan of Japanese based games anyway. So let's look at the games I like

Silent Hill (sucks on PC...needs controller)
Resident Evil (sucks on PC...needs controller)
Devil May Cry (err.....still needs damn controller)
God of War (Console exclusive)
Final Fantasy XIIIVIIVIWWIIII (Yeah no comment)
Gran Turismo Series (Console exclusive)
Mortal Kombat (Good luck finding any modern MK on PC)
Street Fighter (Same as above)
Ridge Racer (Arcade goodness ...not on PC)
Daxter :D (not on PC)

Nah...PC gaming just ain't for me...consoles FTW! :p

Hate your last statement doob.... sorry dont wanna make enemies but yeah just had to say that.... oh no wait this thread is for fanboyism and stabbing each other isnt it killove? so i take it back doob.... till the next thread

Lol, I can just feel the love ;)

I mean that statement in all seriousness, and I don't mean to belittle anyone by it, that's honestly how I see PC versus console.

EDIT: If you're sitting with an RRoD 360 then you're the 'nana for not swapping it for a new one.

Oh wait,
I very nearly wasted my money on an XBOX

You lying there boyo!? Just trying to get a bit of a flame on 'ey?

@Lyc, as everyone has already said, each to their own, and by all means we are entitled to our own preferences.

Fact is the market is moving, whether Piracy is driving developers to consoles, or it's just folks getting off the upgrade bus, fact is console sales of Xplat games are coming in at almost 10:1 to the PC, even more so if you look at the actual revenue. It's little wonder PC gamers are now picking up sloppy seconds (in the retail game space).

(And don't go arguing game prices, we've been through that a dozen times already, they're about equal)

Anyhow, even with you lengthy explanation I doubt the steadfastness of your PC conviction. Otherwise, you wouldn't be in the Console forum trying to justify yourself. ;)

Once again, I'm not trying to be nasty, but I think you bought the wrong console for your taste in games. I know because I used to be in the same place. I prefer "PC type" games, and all the good ones are on the 360.

Oh yes Doobiwan, need to congratulae you on the new blog!
Looking good!

Just busy reading the '08 Exclusive piece.
I saw this on the net and laughed my arse off!
I only see 2 system sellers for the PS3 - FFXIII and MGS4.
Even the mighty GT5 won' encourage someone to buy a PS3.

Nah, they're 1-2 months behind everything else, badly written and typically ill informed.

You're better of getting your news and reviews on the net and local content on LazyGamer.

Oh, and thanks. ZIM$10 cheque is in the mail ;)

Thanks for the Zim$, hopefully it is two-ply? ;)

The 2 main mags, I call the 1 Game Cosmo (very glossy and lots of pretty pictures but completely vacant of topical - game related - reviews, news or facts) and the Other One called that because it is all it is, not really making any impact on anything but there none the less, and to prove how out of date they are, their website (official website) is still showing the cover of December 2007.

It is sad somehow, that the one has degraded into an glossy-picture-book with full-page narations of personal drivel from writers that are working there while they write, what they think will be, the next Lord of the Rings or Atlas Shrugs.

All of this if of course stemming from the fact that I was banned from the one Mags forum because I told the one moderator to visit www.****.com when he implied I was a retard because I actually liked JRPG.

The joy of forums ;)

So until the 1 actually spends some time to update their website and forum... and the other actually use more than 100 words to do a review on a game and reduce the amount of drivel from their writers...make mine metaritic.com

Uhuh... sure, that's why I spent R7,000 on consoles - 'cos I'm "trying to get a bit of a flame on."

(And don't go arguing game prices, we've been through that a dozen times already, they're about equal)

I don't recall "arguing game prices." I was making a point. I could've easily spent the R7,000 I spent on a PS2, PS3 and PSP on upgrading my computer. My point was simple - if upgrading a computer is too expensive, where do people get the money for the console/games from.

And I apologise, doobiwan, I wasn't trying to start an argument, I was giving my perspective. Plus, I don't like having to teach people how to read. But very well, I shall leave the "console wars" to those that spend their time arguing it.

This is the reason why Fanboi threads dont work - it normally boiils down to someone mis-reading the posts :(

So the other day I saw this nice BSOD and RROD ...

...err wait.... /runs :p:D:eek:

Hey each to their own.

I can say that I went for a console because I got tired of the whole upgrade cycle on PC's, the hardware incompatibility problems and the misleading graphics requirements printed on the game boxes. I mean if I exceed the recommended graphics requirements why do I have to play the game with below average settings? Assassin's Creed worked out the box with incredible graphics on my XBox - there was nothing to upgrade, tweak, install etc.

I also found you have to stay up to date with the hardware, which is great if you have an interest in it, but I couldn't personally give a hoot about NVidia's latest SLI card. And don't get me started on why after I re-installed XP NFS ran even smoother - WTF?

IMHO consoles make life easier for the developer and the "average" gamer. For the former it is because they have a fixed target they can develop for - from a developer's perspective there is no difference between the Elite vs the Pro. For the latter they are guaranteed that the game will run as promised without any need for hardware upgrades or overclocking or tweaking etc.

The things that are different like keyboards vs controllers are an individual preference. And even so you get used to whatever you do your gaming on.

One last thing, I think, I can't say I really know, that it makes financial sense for game development studios to target consoles. There is far less piracy on the "next gen" consoles and there is a fixed target in terms of hardware so studios can save loads of testing time. So I suspect that the PC is going to become less important for games, but it won't ever die out.

So enjoy your PC and I will enjoy my console.

Unfortunately i have to agree but hopefully the PCGA will better after their weak first press conference, they are the last hope now. Dell is also still believing in PC Gaming, they've just brought out a new XPS series in gaming desktops so yeah there is hope

I was quite surprised to learn the orginal Xbox console would give Green Screen of Death errors :p (never had an Xbox console myself before the 360)

No, the fact that you lied about owning a 360.

we have an XBOX with RROD

That's a troll bait comment of note. So what are you playing pirate games on you PS*'s then? The price of games, or more importantly the economics of games has been discussed ad nauseum and the conclusion every time is that the cost of playing games on PC or console works out about the same.

And I apologise, doobiwan, I wasn't trying to start an argument, I was giving my perspective. Plus, I don't like having to teach people how to read. But very well, I shall leave the "console wars" to those that spend their time arguing it.

Pot and Kettle. Of course you were. If you want to discuss something make sure you get your facts straight first and keep the weaselling to yourself.
