I have the PS3 and will be adding the XBOX360/kinect system soon. I wanted to get my nephew the Wii as that is what he wants....but I read that the new Wii is coming out in 2012...XBOX lite for him rather or a Wii....he has a PSP and PS2 system already.....and I'm donating my 54cm Panasonic CRT as a screen for him too...

XBOX or Wii, or wait for 2012 Wii...?

How old is he?

Cause 5 - 10 I would go Wii
10+ I would say go Xbox

Yes, he is....and he is 8 years old...but he shares well with his cousins and he is a good kid....he usually has to drag his PS2 to them with is his cheap little 19'' LOGIK TV...(wanted one like that because in Spur they have those small TVs)...

buy Wii now...? or would the 2012 Wii be radically different?....and what about updates with the Wii....does it also happen via ethernet...?

The new Wii is rumoured to be as powerful as an Xbox 360 or PS3 so there's not much hype around that. Next month a prototype playable version of the new Wii will be shown off at E3.

Kinect+Xbox beats the Wii hands down. Also there's plenty of kiddies titles available on the Xbox 360.

Way your options out well between the Xbox 360 4gb and the 250gb.

Wii fails. Get an Xbox: More games, better graphics, and if you really want to, you can buy the Xbox motion 3D camera thingy; which easily competes with the Wii.

That and you will all get over the Wii in two days. Xbox will last you years.

My reason for promoting a Wii especially for kids is that Xbox even with kinetic promotes sitting on your ass to play games.

True but dont you think thats more to do with parents? I had one of those Nintendo consoles as a kid and played lots of sport throughout primary school mainly due to restrictions placed on how often I could play for.

Yes agreed parents has a big input into this, but its easier said than done.

Esp in today's age where parents see games and shopping malls as the Baby sitters of the modern age.

Current Wii is the best selling console in the world, Wii 2 will be epic.. LCD screens on controllers for awesome multiplayer. Processing power is nothing without innovation.

Seeing that he is going to use a CRT screen the current Wii will do just fine

yes...this is important.....we are going mountain biking soon....on a regular basis...busing buying him a frame and some second-hand kit for the bike build I'm starting soon....

I won't buy a Wii now if the new one is coming out next year. Maybe get him a second hand Wii for now?

Nintendo wii includes numchuck, remote and 2 games
R1 350

Nintendo wii includes numchuck, remote and 2 games is in very good condition. Urgent sale!

So shop around and you could come off without a big dent to your wallet.

No idea about years/models. Maybe google a bit and see if any models/revisions have known issues.

100% agreed with Ponder on this one.

Second hand Wii cheap as chips and if it was my kid i wouldn't grant him access to 360 platform due to some very adult and mature games not intended for kids and could be damaging to his mind.
Besides that, a second hand Wii can be yours for R1000-R1400 with or without a second controller and games.

A older 2006-2007 Wii(granted its in great condition),would be a good bet as the console is very easily soft-modded to play homebrew etc without any console opening or difficulty.

Was discussing the same thing with the wife this afternoon. Little Geek is turning 4 next week and wanted to get a console but there is not enough child friendly content out there.

Still not so sure about a Wii though, its dying like the PS2.
