I dont REALLY mean to start this whole debate again, but I am frustrated and need to rant! I recently bought a laptop 90% for the specific purpose of playing games. I bought some games and recently discovered...

Instructions for Console:
1. Buy game
2. Switch console on
3. Insert game disc into console
4. enjoy

Instructions for PC:
1. Buy game
2. Install game
3. Try to enter validation code.
4. Encounter error message "Duplicate code"
5. Call international helpdesk out of frustration and refusal to RTFM
6. Get told to take disc back to store
7. Take disc back to store and argue with staff that they need to change game disc despite the fact that you have lost your receipt
8. Get staff to agree to change disc
9. Get told that they don't have another disc
10. Get given store credit
11. Spend store credit on another game
12. Take new game home (Star Craft 2)
13. Put new game into computer
14. Have installation problems
15. Consult the games troubleshooting page
16. Do stuff with computer
17. Get game to work
18. Watch as game downloads 180 megs worth of patches.
19. Enjoy game

Controls aside, PC gaming lets me play games over hamachi/lanbridger with friends. The benefits of this is obvious.
Game mods, it's why I still have the original Half-Life installed to this day.
Bigger MP games, as in the number of players on a server is way higher, only with the recent Bad Company 2, the PC version suffers because of it's console roots. 24 players max as apposed to 64 players for the old PC exclusives.
Higher resolutions and AA, but really not a big deal for me.

Although I partially agree with the poster above, I don't mind having to tinker with a game until I find the best settings, or having to deal with the odd issue of launching a game or having a sound bug. Guess I'm just used to it.

Both platforms def have their place. Gaming shouldn't be trial and error, yes the PC elitist will tell you it's not a big issue for them EVER, but there comes a game now and then with an issue that really wants to make you rage. The console community is getting insanely large, in some games surpassing their PC counterparts, purely because of popping the game in, park on your couch and join a mate online style of it.

I fixed it for you ;)

At the end of the day, console or pc, you will be prompted to patch it if you have an internet connection.

No matter how much fuss might be involved, I still would rather have my PC any day of the year. ;)

I haven't upgraded my PC in years, since MMO's aren't that hectic on resources.

I have an Xbox & PS3 and don't really see a massive difference between them. Generally I prefer my gaming in the following sense:

PC:

MMO's / FPS / Strategy (If i were into it)

Console:

Racing / Fighting / RPG / Adventure

Well if you used STEAM it would be, select game at 10pm, 10:05pm pay for game, 10.06pm select install. Next morning most recent version with all patches and STEAM community working.

Also you would have paid maybe 30% of the console game versions price.

Your argument is not so much PC vs Console but delivery method vs delivery method.

Agreed Shayd but then again not everyone has the luxury of having a fast adsl connection at home. Anyway back on topic, at the end of the day it boils down to what you like, I love fps games on my pc and i love tinkering with the gfx ect and pushing my rig to the max, on the other hand when I'm lazy and not in the mood to play online fps games, I'll sit on the couch and play some x360.

And if you need to reformat then you will need to download all that again. Not an attractive option if you don't have a fast connection, which is why physical media will always still have its place.

PC wins for me because... I would have had one anyway, might as well play games on it.
Don`t have to upgrade as often anymore because the popularity of consoles and windows XP (DX9) has left the advances in graphics a bit stagnant.
Bought an nVidia 8800 a few years ago, and will only need to upgrade when the new generation of consoles come out.
Unfortunately, publishers often break their games kuk drm... usually fixed with a crack.

+100

Got to agree, thats very well said. I'm a PC gamer through and through but some games just feel better on my 360. And I find most bugs as a challenge more than an issue.

Meh... My pc is for general interwebs use & downloading bluray rips. My console (ps3) is for watching said bluray rips (and occasionally playing GTA IV or GT5 or FIFA or TEKKEN or something).

HAHA !

I think both console and PC can have their issues. I think on the PC though you have a high chance of being able to fix those issues.
You can upgrade the hardware, download a patch\drivers. With a console you cannot.

Also some games can only be played on a pc.... and others can only be played on a console !

It's just different strokes for different folks. Some prefer consoles and and some prefer PC's for gaming whatever the reason may be.

its not a option anymore, you need a computer, weather for gaming or not, you cannot live on a console anymore, no consoel offers the same as a pc, iv got a 360 and a pc, i dont game on the pc but in todays time if i had to upgrade either my pc will be first. Gaming on a pcc is troubles but it does still win, only thing that pushes me only console gaming more is online there are less cheaters and you dont need to worry about someone hacking the game and cheating so much as you would on a pc......:) :) :)

My Thoughts on this:
Most of the time installing games on PC is a breeze.
Your laptop is portable a console is not (handhelds are but they are not in the same league).
Updates are so the game you are playing is as optimised as possible, each update removes bugs and improves balance(SC2). Would you rather download patches or have a buggy game?
And its the other 10% (90% for gaming) which is not possible on a console, ie internet browsing.

Major downside is the price of the computer needed to play at current console levels, laptops are even worse.
Major upside is if you have a decent PC it will play games better than on console, as the current gen consoles are looking a bit dated compared to the latest PC's and there don't seem to be replacements any time soon.

Oh and FPS and strategy games were meant to played on PC.
3rd person shooters/driving games etc were made for console

I think that my gripe is an OLD one. I have always had problems installing games from the early days. I have horrible memories of BEGGING my parents to take me to a friends house to get a game. Driving home with the 5 discs of whatever. Installation usually consisted of Disc 1..Disc 2.. fine.. disc 3... fine.. disc 4.. fine.. disc 5 Syntax Error! NOOOOOO!!
Issues like that.. and things like getting games in zipped form and then being given "zip" as well.. but my friend also zipping the winzip exe file!! usually that means waiting till next weekend so you can beg one of your parents to take you to your friends house again!

If there is any room for malfunction, it WILL happen to me.. my luck with installing PC games has NEVER been good. I think when I wrote the first post, its all those years of frustration that came to the fore.. you should have seen me at the time. I had friends over and was acting like a little boy who asked father xmas for brand new bike but instead got clothes. I blame PC game installation stuff!!!
