Hi peeps. Why is it that when people that don't have money and like things they can't afford, say that other people are wasting money when they buy things they love, e.g. cars...

I mean today at work, this one guy was talking about him loving a Jeep Wrangler, but didn't get it because it's a 4 liter petrol engine. And how a people who buy SUV and never use them are morons. He said that a R100k car(Toyota Yaris):o does the same as a R1mil car(M5,M3,E63,RS4,Porsche,etc):D

I mean he knew that the Wrangler is a 4l engine, but he goes on about the environment, blah, blah, blah:p

It's clear he can't afford it. Plain and simple. :D Why can we not accept that we don't have money instead of justifying...:p

you are wasting your money, why don't you buy a house instead of a car...:p

You hit the nail on the head.

It's amazing that people always have an opinion about what you should do with your money.

The thing about a Yaris doing the same as a R1m car is a hoot. So in his case, a horse and cart is just fine to get him from point A to point B. :D

What I hate are people that tell you they were looking at buying some fancy, expensive car and ended settled on something half the price ...

"I actually put my order in for the Audi RS4, but cancelled when I realised the RunX is actually a much more practical car ..."

I can afford a better car then I drive at the moment but I don't see the point. If its your hobby then it's a different story.

I'm still drooling over the 2010 Camaro... I see they're planning a "Black Edition" and and LS& edition. Imagine the 7.0 LS& lump in that puppy! Ohhhh...

Anyway, I'm saving up for that. If they decide not to bring it to SA, I guess I'll have to settle for a '69 Camaro SS. You get them for aroung R250 000 nowadays.

Methinks you're saving in vain, Dude. I'd be very surprised if The General is still around in 2010 (at least in its current guise). The fact that GM is focusing its R&D on 7 liter lumps might be the very reason why they might go the way of the Dodo. The Volt should have been in production long ago.

"Even if GM succeeds in averting bankruptcy, we believe that the company's future path is likely to be bankruptcy-like,"

Ouch!

I guess you get some people who would rather buy an expensive car than be practical, maybe he wanted the rs4 but when he thought about the price difference and what he could with the money saved he thought otherwise, it sounds like you guys really have a problem with people who can't or would not buy an expensive car which is rather disturbing.

A friend of mine bought a car that cost him 60% of his salary, just so he could have a nice car. Wow clever and i'm sure people will notice him, but was it practical?

I think it has something to do with the Jones's or keeping up with them?!! I don't know, there was an authority on the subject on here not so long ago, Skinner was his name... Actually has he been banned? cause I haven't seen anything from him lately...

I think the OP is not pointing his displeasure with people not buying expensive cars, but rather his displeasure with people making up excuses to make you think that they can afford it.

I know what you're saying but it's like I was telling a friend the other night, "You get people who buy cars because it gets them from point A to point B and you get people who are passionate about cars. Those are the people who buy something like a Koenigsegg(sp?). It's a ridiculous car with a ridiculous price but it really doesn't matter. Just as you can't really explain the way a certain song makes you feel to someone who hates it, you can't explain the way driving a certain car makes you feel."

i totally agree with you ,
i know people who can afford any car they want but drive simple cars instead, cos its not their hobby , they just not crazy about cars like the rest of us.

I agree with you. I also drive a citi golf and my installment is very little compared to my salary. But there are some people who i know that like to make up excuses, you are wasting money, practicality, i wanted this but thought i can get that instead becuase of...

If you have money and you love something you will get it, you won't worry about it being practical, it's simply for the love that you have for that particular item.

People what that have money and can afford, don't make up excuses if they are driving a small car, they drive a small car and that's that. Not "i drive this because it's more safer than my SUV, blah blah blah, or the environment crap"...

That's been confirmed for SA and am definitely saving up for it :)

People who can't afford cars must keep their mouths closed. It's their fault anyway. We all work for what we have so why can't they do the same while earning a decent salary?
