constantly booking off sick

To answer any questions....no....I don't work for government, yes I am out of here soon (government just make you such good offers to work for them:) ), no I won't take a sick day here and there cuz I respect my payslip to much and every time I tend to book off sick it is rather easier to go to work than having to phone this person, then that person, then another person....all for a single day sick leave. Others don't do it but slit my wrists if I don't do it.

Why do you care if your company doesn't?
haha exactly ....the worker has so many sick days and if he wants to use them up in a way you dont like then i think it has nothing to do with you
Because in most cases those workers left behind have to pick up the slack of the serial sickies. It also prevents him from taking leave (normal leave) if there are too many other employees supposedly on sick leave.

Yup.... At times due to operational requirements the employer can easily turn down leave applications from regular workers due to abuse of sick leave from the lazy bunch...

Sick leave abuse is the scourge of most industries... Its open to blantant abuse and its very difficult to fire folks that "use" the system to their benefit.

Ok. That would suck.

that makes a difference

iv been here 9 months and not 1 sick day used

cause its a waste of money going to the doc for the sick note and my med aid doesnt have savings for doctor visits

Most of my sick days are caused by migraines. It's a complete **** to have to drive to a doctor for a sicknote when you can't see where you're going...

Same here.

I'm working for Local Government and although we get 80 days sick over a period of 3 years (it's still too much in my opinion) as soon as an employee hits 12 days over a 12 month rolling period...BAM!...Informal Incapacity meeting.

Working in HR for 8 years you wouldn't believe the excuses for sick leave.

"I went to door. I passed out. I woke up and my tongue was swollen. I couldn't talk so I gave R2 to the neighbour to call in sick at work. The neighbour didn't have food in the house and used the R2 to buy bread."

Most of my sick leave was used in June-July 2010. If you know what I mean...

I wouldnt bother - just do your work. You will always get people that will bend the system. Its not your job to keep track of them and what they are going. If HR is failing then its their problem.

It does become my problem as when I want annual leave it gets turned down, today being a prime example where I just asked for annual leave....and what do you know....someone is on sick leave so due to operational requirements you are unable to take leave (that is with 1 person on sick leave), yet 2 days ago 2 people were off sick and another person got to take annual leave.

And before you ask, I out perform everyone in my shift at work and have a clean record so no....the company doesn't have issues with me.

So yes....someone books off "sick" and now you can't have leave, God only knows where they keep pulling this sick leave out of?
