Five public infrastructure projects have stalled due to interference by construction mafia syndicates since 2019 for periods ranging from a few days to four months at a time, Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Sihle Zikalala said.

“There have been a total of five public infrastructure projects that have been halted due to interference by the construction mafia since 2019, one in Gauteng and four in KwaZulu-Natal,” Zikalala said.

He was responding to questions from DA MP Sello Seitlholo about the total number of public infrastructure projects across the country that have been suspended and stopped due to interference by construction mafia in the last five years, as well as the total cumulative costs of the disruptions to the economy.

We are involved in a government project stopped in KZN; all about power and bribe money, costing the taxpayer about R5m per month to do nothing and no one cares, is bothered or can control the "mafia" types / business forums; not Metro cops (ha ha), SAPS (ha ha ha), the councilor (too many ha's to write), mayor (ha) or the MEC (ha ha ha). Impasse.

Private project in same area is steaming ahead, bribe money paid we hear.

We need Elon to develop remote controlled launchers disguised as brown paper bags full of money. Or maybe our Hamas supporting Saffers can also help us out here.

So much for the supposed arrests which "put a stop to most of them".

How difficult is it to catch these guys? I mean go in fck them up, best to just kill these type of guys. Hell send in the army.

5 is the number they'll admit to. It's way way higher than that in reality.
Seems low. It doesn't mean that because the number of projects halted is low that other projects weren't affected by criminal influence. I wouldn't be suprised if tender corruption, bribery and extortion took place in lots of these projects.

If it's a government project then that happened in all of them.

Pretty much impossible when all our police do is monitor the situation, or run away when the guys arrive with automatic weapons.
