Brilliant!! Best value for money ever. News spreads like a virus if the message touches a nerve. Is this the end of the beginning or is it the beginning of the end? We will fight them on the beaches - we will never surrender. Never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to just one full page advert.

In reply, Telkom issued a statement on Friday saying it was committed to adjusting its pricing model consistently in order to make telecommunications more affordable and accessible to business as well as the broader public

Dear Thabo: Criminal Telkom behaviour

Could someone please go down to the cop shop and LAY
a few friggin' CHARGES against these evil and greedy
buggers? Shaming them does not seem to work. They
also seem to be aiding the DESTRUCTION of our economy
by unfairly raising the barriers to IT through the pricing
policies bordering on EXTORTION, THEFT, BLACKMAIL
(and possibly financial rape, or at least harassment, heh)

Let's see which laws Telkom are breaking with the aid of our
fine government:

1. Monopoly and Competition laws

Clearly these are not going to be applied against the adder in our
bosom. That leaves us with only one way.

2. THE BILL OF RIGHTS that would protect your FREEDOM of CHOICE
of WORK and WORKPLACE.

Clearly if you choose computers and the Internet, you will be
discriminated against. This is plainly unconstitutional.

Hopefully the ruling government's handling of this situation
over the past 12 years indicate that:

1. They are IGNORANT of the information economy and its benefits
2. They are indifferent, or possibly intimidated, because of their ignorance
3. The have NO IDEA of the long term damage to our economy

I cannot believe that any government could be that stupid. The only
alternative explanation is that they are doing this deliberately, and
that it is part of the "redressing the imbalances of the past" policy,
and that Telkom pricing is part of a low intensity economic warfare
against those sections of the population that depend on and use communication technology as an essential tool in their work and leisure.

Or, the ANC govt does not want freedom of expression and opinion
which becomes difficult to control in the Internet era, and want to
restrict access to it and control it eventually.

Which is it? I don't really care any more... it seems that we're
going to have to be using the "mshini's wam" to be heard at all.

Would someone please forward my letter, below:

Dear President Thabo

You're stealing our money. Also, you're chasing away our investors.
Also, you're making our kid's education much more expensive. Also,
those kids in Korea and Russia are much better with computers than
our own. Also, because of the high "Internet Tax to Telkom", you're
making our IT businesses uncompetitive agains foreigners. Also, you're
chasing away researchers and academics that want to help us in our
fight against disease, poverty, ignorance.

Pretty please mister president, with sugar on top.

And add the "last time we cut prices by 2%" line as if it is something to be proud of.

I get really irritated when Telkom make out as if they decided to cut the prices. Those price reductions were part of what they are required to do by Icasa so it's not like Telkom were doing us any favours, they were just working within the framework they are forced to work in.

Plus, if you overcharge everyone with 50% for x number of years and then cut prices by 2.1%... you don't really fool me...

Also consider that the inflation rate in SA is (at least) 6%, so what they're really saying is "we pushed up prices 4% last year".

All of which pales into insignificance when you realise that Telkom's prices are at least 400% overpriced.... A 2% price cut is about 1/35th of what is needed

Telkom Lies.. how many times has it already been proved that the 24% Average is a play on figures and words and doesn't amount to anything when you look at the actual decreases we got
