Consumers Accepting Quotas

I wonder who they asked. They are just brainwashing us
The tea lady and the cleaning lady. Oh, and the smokers outside in the rain. All of them said yes just so that Eskom surveyors could leave them alone.

As long as the quota is worked out on the number of people in the household, because I have 7 people on the property. Giving me the same quota as a single person or a young couple would be blatantly unfair.

Sparkie Maroga is an idiot. How can he not know how much electricity we import or export?

And now this moron thinks that he speaks for me.

Sorry for you but you're too stupid.

How do you feel about Eskoms Quota:

1) Very Very happy
2) Very Happy
3) Happy
4) did not want to participate in survey

Jacob Maroga needs a severe beating with the clue-stick.

From a previous article regarding electricity quota's and fines.
Nelisiwe Makubane, Deputy Director General of the Department of Minerals and Energy,

"Once we have received public comments, then the regulator and ESKOM will implement those regulations, which will include, among other things, incentives for people to move to power-rationing and also penalties to make sure that people stick to what they are committed to," Makubane told public radio.

They don't really care what public opinion is.

Strangely though, even if the public saved 20% of their capacity this would have very little impact on the growing problem. The public usage is by far the smallest and will really have a negligible affect on the peak load.

Stop for a second to consider how catastrophic this problem is, if the powers that be are being forced to use these draconian measures. What pressure has been put on the biggest users, industry, what of future infrastructure and that electricity demand.
eish bru
As the economy puts more pressure on the grid so things will worsen, what is clear is that new capacity is 5-7 years away yet.
Today save 20% tomorrow save 50%.

edit: Why not daylight saving, that would do a great job of spreading the load would it not?

So, they implement the quota system. How do you know where you stand from a day-to-day point of view with regard to your power usage? Are they going to sms/mail/email/phone me with updates every morning? Are they going to expect me to buy a electricity meter for installation in my home, so that I can keep my eye om things? Will they even trust me with such power? Or are they going to keep you in the dark, and cut you off when you go past your quota in the middle of the month?

Nice idea, but no practicle implementation strategy from what I've seen.
Earlier, Maroga said the ration would be calculated using an average consumption minus a specific percentage reduction.
Time to up my average, otherwise I will have to switch of my geyser, PC or fridge, as this is the only power hungry appliances I have.
Speaking at Monday's briefing, he said Eskom had not "crossed all the Ts" in terms of how people would be able to measure their electricity usage according to the quota. An electricity rationing system apparently had been used successfully in Brazil.
No, the quota will only tell you, where you should be going with your usage, it does not measure your usage, from day-to-day, like an actual electricity meter.

Quota calculated from an average? What average? An average for the whole country, or based on previous electricity bills done for each household\property? I don't see how one quota for all will work here.

...

Interesting. From your quote it seems they will ask the public. It now seems they think they have asked the public.

Bwaaahahahahahahaha, Ekhoerhoelenie cannot even read my electricity meter correctly and now they want to introduce quotas .. BWAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Pahleaze.

I dunno, from the tone it seems that they would ask the public then implement regardless. They never said they would ask for public opinion then decide what course of action to follow, just that they would implement what their collective 'minds' have already come up with.

Did any of you read The Star article yesterday about the shortage of power in Brazil a few years back?

The implemented a quota system - but added a rewards program too. If one didn't reach their quota they could sell the remainder for cash ...

Yeah, I realise that. I was pointing out that they now just claimed people will accept it, as if they conducted a survey (which we all know they didn't)

Different situation. Like someone else said last time this was mentioned: you will find public support for an idea born out of incompetence of our government and power utility is much less than it would be if the problem was caused by a natural disaster.
