I would also take a look at this site to learn about the many negative aspects of Lasik surgery. Even if the initial operation is successful you can experience serious eye problems at a later stage due to premature cataracts, complications during later cataract surgeries or resulting from dry eye conditions etc.

hi yotch, even though the website is informative, I haven't had any of those complications and most of the questions about complications (from the website) was asked to the doctor (who is a specialist in the field) and most of those are false and/or easily corrected.

The flap not healing is also false, and even if it does get dislodged for some reason (usually due to poor surgery in the first place), it too is easily corrected.

I'm not sure how up to date that website is with it's facts, but LASIK has come a long way in the past few years. Prolonged use of contact lenses has a more serious effect than LASIK will ever have.

I'm glad I did it

Yep, I came across that site when I was doing my own research before I has lasik, and while it's pretty scary it's also pretty old. Certainly pre-custom lasik. They've made a ton of improvements since then. It's something to bear in mind when reading lasik sites - it's almost like reading a review for win98 and on the basis of that deciding not to install XP.

Good to hear that you're making progress with the contacts.

With LASIK and contacts - when renewing your driving license they will insist that you do the eye test with your glasses on if your old license indicates that you wear then, unless you bring an optometrists report stating your vision without glasses - I was lucky that I had my reading glasses with me and just peered over the top of them into that electronic testing device.

Interesting, then my license probably doesn't indicate that I wore specs for 20 years. I did my renewal last year without any indication that I had specs

I did my renewal in Feb 2008.
On the front of mine it says "Restriction 1" and on the reverse side that reads "Glasses / contact lenses", so they insisted that I use the glasses when doing the eye test, or get an optomitrists report - I didn't have the time for that, so just put my reading glasses on and went with the flow.

Ah, this is what I wanted to know.

I'll just get my opthalmologist to give me letter when I go for my checkup next week.
