Contacts instead of glasses

A friend of mine suggested I try out contacts.

I was wondering if anyone could give me a ballpark number for the costs involved?
 
About R1000 every six months for disposable lenses.

R100 a month for contact lense fluid.
 
Mine cost about R1300 for six month supply. Pay about R200 for a 6+ month supply of solution.

Medical aid pays first six months, I usually have plenty of cash to in my yearly allowance from MA to cover the second six months - just contact medical aid and they will send you a form to fill out approving the release of those funds to go to the practitioner.

Cheaper than glasses, especially if you do the new glasses every 2 years or so.

Last time I used it, was about R40-50 for a pair of 2 week disposables, though 15 years ago did the laser thing and never looked back {pun intented}
 
R2k (For the pair) but I wear hard lenses which are not disposable as I have keratoconus. Something you hopefully will never have to worry about.

I've picked a new pair of glasses. I stood on my 2year old current ones. Costing me 4k for a new pair of police frames with transitions lenses and all that jazz.

Flipping expensive. I tried contacts but I couldn't do it hey. Just not possible.

I pay R600-R700 for contact lenses for 6 months and R23 for solution for the month. where do you guys pay soo much for contact lenses and fluid?

Insure your glasses then, I've done that its only added R5 to my all risk
 
My corneas were too thin for laser :(

The price of the contacts are dependent on your prescription. If you can buy those off the shelf ones that's great. Mine have to be made for me hence the R1300 per 6 months. Maybe also because my optician isn't franchised - but I like the better personal service and the fact that they know who I am even if they haven't seen me for 6 months prior. Also my medical aid covers all the costs so I don't mind how much it is.

It depends on the level of astigmatism. I had very mild astigmatism (and still do) but it didn't affect the laser work.
Afaik the main limitation is on the shape of the cornea, if it's not thick enough then they can't reshape it properly.
But the people who do the op can tell you if it's possible or not.

Best thing I did for my eyes. Still got great eyesight 11 years down the line.

Yeah that's about the price, Bausch & Lomb had a good deal, don't know if it's still on, buy a years supply at approx R1200 and get a pair of Polo sunglasses free
