I think I may have a problem. I send over 30 emails to my clients each day and today I received this response from the vodacom email server:

Your message to:
-> [email protected]
-> [email protected]
-> [email protected]

was considered unsolicited bulk e-mail (UBE).
Subject:
Return-Path: <[email protected]>
Our internal reference code for your message is 27342-01-7/xsKwQKtQd0CE.

Delivery of the email was stopped!

Please look into it for me. If I cant send email I have a major problem.
Thanks

Looks like you somehow triggered a bulk mail filter.

Do you send the mail with many cc's?

How quickly do you send one after the other?

I don't cc anybody. I can send up to 10 or more emails to my clients within 5 minutes. All emails have attachments

This is the first time this has happened in over 2 years. Is there something that may have changed?

I think you triggered a mail rate alarm.

PM me your e-mail address and I get the mail guys to chat to you to resolve and prevent this.

Thanks.

I thought I may done something like that:o . Sending up to 90 emails a day to the same people (as I can do) could be the problem. Have sent PM.

Hi V3G

I have not had the problem today at all, so if your guys did something it worked otherwise it may have sorted its self out. I will see if happens again, and if it does under what circumstances.

Thanks

Looks like you forgot the subject line in the message and that got the spam filters all hot and bothered.

Can you check?

Most of the emails sent (2 out of 3) have no text at all, only the attachments.

And subjects?

This specific mail got rejected due to no subject line.

It makes sense to ensure your mail does not look like Spam to avoid the triggers.

1. always provide a subject
2. do not use excessive UPPER CASE
3. avoid excessive or unnecessary use of HTML
4. check that your host provides a FQDN
5. don't put to many recipients in the respective to, cc, bcc fields.
6. Avoid obvious keywords, like viagra, Hi or Hello in the subject line, etc.

You'll appreciate we need to stop spam while still allowing normal mail to go through, but the filters can only be so clever. So any help you can provide the filters will help everybody.

The thing is that up till now a lot of the emails through vodacom, since I signed up have been the same as the one rejected.

This morning I held 6 emails in my outbox and sent them all at once to see if it would trigger them spam, all had no subject, and no content except the attachment, as I do for 60% of the emails I send, and all of them went through without a hitch.

In answer to your questions:
1. always provide a subject - almost never
2. do not use excessive UPPER CASE - never
3. avoid excessive or unnecessary use of HTML - never
4. check that your host provides a FQDN - FQDN??? (smtp.vodacom mail host)
5. don't put to many recipients in the respective to, cc, bcc fields. - never
6. Avoid obvious keywords, like viagra, Hi or Hello in the subject line, etc. - never

So it looks like it may have been the subject. But then what about all the emails since then?

I know for a fact that it was the no-subject that bounced the last one. The mail admins checked for me and confirmed.

You build up a 'spam rating' over time and the last no-subject pushed it over the limit. They probably reset it for you after the last incident.

Best not to tempt it by not putting a subject in! :)

Thanks for the help.

:D OK. Looks like I will need to adjust my sinful ways:D

Now that I know why, I can sort it out. I initially thought it was because I send 30+ emails a day to the same people within a short period of time.

Message classified as SPAM or BULK , apparently from you - Vodacom3g

This is happening to me as well and I have read through this and have no idea why I have been put onto a spam list. How do I resolve it as it is our main work email?
