Contingency for worst case SA

see edit - "disadvantaged", sorry

where feelings are subjective and possessed solely by DISadvantaged

feelings of oppression. past and present, being possessed solely by the disadvantaged (non-white) groups because the the whites have not experienced that sort of oppression before. Therefore, there is a lack of empathy and understanding from the one side, who are claimed to be simply disregarding of the past so easily

You need to stop just 'feeling stuff' and look up some real history, especially how the British threw the Boer women & children in concentration camps and how many Boers fighting the war against British oppression returned to their farms having been burned to the ground by the enemy.

Making sweeping untrue statements does not help your argument..

Not putting forward my own argument. I'm actually describing the retort that is given when objective facts (history included) are presented. I agree the feeling stuff should be stopped, but it is the cornerstone of the leftist/socialist argument. The "feeling stuff" validates their experience in such away that makes the more objective facts less applicable to them. This is just an observation from my side that may open up some dialogue, don't shoot the messenger.

The wife and I are in the process to GTFO of here in around 20 months time. Already moving as much money as we can offshore.

Let's first define the worst case scenario: In 2019:,populism prevails and mixture of socialism and marxism is adopted fully by the leading government in efforts to attain socio-economic equality for the people. The result: the rand value plummets and inflation begins to rise.

What are some of the contingency plans, if any, that you have set up in order to protect the rand-denominated wealth that you already have?

The answers should shed light on some of the sentiment regarding SA in general. I feat that there may be a general attitude of indifference particularly from young people regarding the future of SA. This is not to cause hysteria or to spread pessimism, just an open discussion.

You are talking about now, not 2019.

Any-case. Half my liquidity is already abroad. My SO is heading to the UK for a 8month secondment. Ill go visit December, and decide if I should apply for my ancestral visa / put properties up for sale.

If I go down that route, Ill sell all assets and join her in the UK once my visa is approved.

You don’t need a visa nor skills to go to flee to any SADC country as a South African.

Is this true? Because nothing I've read about our neighbours indicates this. I honestly wouldn't mind going to Botswana or Zambia - I was actually conceived in Zambia - not sure that counts though - but lots of family history in the country and would not mind living there. Both, while underdeveloped, are much more stable than SA.

Then you need one to become resident there.

But you can enter the country freely and sort your situation once in if you really need to be out of SA.

From my circle of friends and experience with many a person in the past year or so, majority opinion is to find another spot to reside permanently, not because they want to, but because they don't see any future for their families in SA. Painful to hear the sentiment in SA is so damn low. Overall not a very positive space especially when others vilify you in your own country of birth.

1st move is to get as much money in offshore brokerages as possible. Guess this is the definition of Capital Flight.

I earn in USD. Can't decide whether it's better to stay put and watch or move abroad. I must sell the house though and move that offshore.

If you earn US$ and can keep the money offshore there's no need to leave yet. Just accumulate what you can overseas. Life is still good here.

Our country is unfortunately already in a state of semi-anarchy. Looking at the brazen criminal activities on a daily basis across SA, lawlessness of certain drivers across the country, violent protests/riots on a weekly basis, criminal terrorism burning down power substations and stealing cables, young students rioting for free education and being told they are "fighting for the freedom of SA" etc.
Not desperation but a country full of self-entitled young people that have to pride or respect for their country(men) anymore.
This is very true. I don't see how we're going to ever fix the current state with the attitude of the young people...entitlement is a nasty thing.

Going there is easy, getting a visa to be able to work there another story.

Working in the industry I can tell you its extremely hard for a South African to obtain a critical skills visa (or any other working visa for that matter) in countries such as Namibia, Moz, Botswana, Angola etc etc.

I already mentioned that legally, it's long. Through other and illegal ways in Moz or Namibia I've hard of visas and PR obtained within a few weeks.

Botswana is definitely the strictest, not sure for Angola.

I'm already out, and suppose I'm the contingency for my family.

I do still have a house in SA that I rent out; starting to seriously consider selling it and washing my hands of the country financially.

I wonder how long before the **** hits the fan. I have planted some avo trees but I'm about 6 years away from fruiting - Wouldn't mind send them Brits Avos at currently R21 to a pound, or R21,000 to a pound in 6 years time........

Yeah I do, in some form or another. Sadly I have paid off my hard earned bond so I do have a lot to lose, but meh, I came here with nothing in the 90's worst case scenario I leave with nothing.

Shitty as situation :/ I don't care if they take land that people got for nothing, but if you bought it in the last 25 years, why should you just give it up?

Agreed but better to leave it than stick around and rot in SA.

I don't think that will happen TBH - it will destroy the economy and country, but then again looking at the ruins of Zim and Venezuela, who know what lengths our politicians will go to for the populist vote. EFF are hell bent on destroying anything that works, looking at Nelson Mandela Bay as an example, and the ANC pandering to the masses and their Chinese overlords things do look a tad bleak, but the world is a big enough place, just going to be hard to even buy an air ticket with a worthless Rand.
