I have this prepaid sim i use to connect to the internet when the megabytes on my contract expires. I find it easier just to use internet banking to load money on the prepaid card and then do the *100# thing

The thing is.. I`ve loaded 1gig on the card, but now i can`t use it. When i plug the thing into my hauwei modem it connects, but it won't download anything.

When i use my contract sim it works.

Is vodacom discriminating against prepaid users? or is there another reason?

Your going to hate this one .... :)

At work we discovered (on a number of prepaid data simms for a project we are working on) that if you do not make a phone call withing 60days (they say 90) on your VC simm you loose it .... and you cannot top up within 30 days of each other

VC do not want to make life easy for those on prepaid Data

If that's true someone should nail VC for discrimination. Some people cannot talk or hear on their phones because of disability and therefore depend on the prepaid data services. It would make an interesting case.

Its VC and all they care about is revenue, revenue and more revenue. Every time I have to go sit in on a meeting with them thats all they talk about and its all they are interested in.

This can't be general... I've been using a prepaid sim for data for a year now and never made a call using that sim.

same here... I have loaded 1 or 2 gigs a month on my prepaid data sim for about a year now.

I did have the same issue with it a couple of months ago though, phoned the help desk and it was sorted out a couple of days later. Haven't had issues with it yet. Touch wood!

Dear people,
I have purchased a 500mb 3g contract for my wife, with the e220 modem, everything works fine. Except we never get up to use the full bundle. I recall a year or so ago when prices were dropped, if you had 500, you got 1000 before you went out of bundle. Is this still so? We never get far enough to see on the bill.

In their wisdom, our IT department at work gave me a new sim but did not tell me that instead of 1000 I now had a 500 bundle. I noticed it earlier this month when I had to sign off on a two meg account! Voices (mostly mine) were raised and I am now having to decide whether to get a new sim with one meg or stick to my 500 and top up with data when I hit my limit.

I seem to pick up that I can buy in a sim and top up with Internet banking?

Advice appreciated.

I believe you are incorrect. There was a price reduction which applied to existing contract users as well. So if you had a 500meg contract you still had 500meg you could use but you would pay less.

Your wording is a bit confusing here. You mean gigs?

Your best choice with contract to avoid bill shock is to go for the top-up option. That way you only use what has been allocated to you for the month and if you go over you can load more airtime and then convert it to a bundle.

If you don't need/want a contract buy a pre-paid sim, load airtime (you can use internet banking) and then use the airtime to buy a data bundle. You can do that using either USSD codes or the vodacom4me site. I find the latter works well.

I should have mentioned that we did find out that with VC and MTN you can have this condition removed if you contact them. They need to upgrade your SIMM to business (? or something like that) status. It would not suprise me if this active on a certain number range that was originally dedicated towards business's contracts before they where pooled again.

Either way we wasted a lot of money to find this out.
