Contract with 2GB R149 special

Hi

Has anyone managed to take out a voice contract and add the 2GB R149 per month special on the same SIM so that you can use the data from the phone?

I spoke to someone today at an MTN SP stop and they say it is not possible. But wtf, why not...

It's a special offer on a data sim, it's the same on cell c, vodacom, and 8ta. For your contract you have to purchase a full price data bundle. Or you can do what I've done: get the 8ta 10gb package and a wifi router (this only works if you use most of your data at home though).
