And those who's just there because the ANC thinks they're too useless to get another job.

I think this is great plan, but it simply won't work since our guava mint has no intention of fixing a problem they can use to control & extort people with.

Commie handbook 101: there always have to be a crisis.
I agree but a crisis is (supposed to be) short lived. There has to be an ongoing, endless struggle, commies can get far more mileage out of it, just like AA and BEE it can carry on for many milleniums, until geezwhizz comes.

The problem is we have people like Gweezy who are protecting their little powerbase and retirement fund at all costs and thus have a very narrow and myopic view on things.

"We can't lose 100000 jobs in the mining sector, so Eskom MUST keep all the stations running and not be allowed to move to better and cheaper power sources"
When the reality is that a stable power supply in the country will very quickly see those 100000 jobs recreated in other sectors, and even the move to other power sources would see much of the workforce who theoretically "lost" their jobs, being absorbed in other areas.

But of course that requires thinking beyond tomorrow and the votes a decision may or may not cost you in the next internal election cycle or at the national polls in 2024.
If cyril had any brains he'd have fired that fat fsckr's ass long time ago already.

This article is like being told you need to get rid of your beat up old jalopy that breaks down half way to work when you can't afford to replace it.
I see it more like you can now use the maintenance funds (and the R1,250,000 plastic wheelcaps) to simply get an uber.

If your old jalopy also causes issues with other cars in the highway by breaking down and they crash into you :(
Sadly these are being run well beyond their attended lifespan and were only brought out of mothballs about 12 years ago
Hauled out of the coffins in the graveyard to do a 5 year stint. 5 years.

Oh without a doubt they are long overdue for replacement, but realistically speaking unless we can find that 13%/4000MW elsewhere we sort of have to live with the risk of being "crashed into"
Easily found by directing (qualified and competent) human resources and funds towards the stations that are young but grossly underperforming, like Tutuka, Medupi and Kusile.

There is a coal-fired power station near Pontypool in Wales, built in 1933. Still operational but seldom used.

As soon as the new Nuclear plant comes on line, this is in line for the bulldozers
