"Pearson said the next global IT buzzword would be NBIC (nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology and cognitive science) convergence, which essentially means ICT will be seamlessly integrated into everything around us... Amid this new ambient intelligence environment, communications could become virtually free, Pearson said."

I think a few execs at out telecoms firm might disagree :D

Ordinary analogue voice is out and we need to concider a world where data is allowed to travel freely around the globe. You should just pay a minor usage fee for access to the grid.

I can see South Africa legislating against any new tech that will incroach on Telkom's traditional mode of making money. It is already being done...

Hey I think I could deal with this...as long as I get 7 of 9 in the package deal, not sure where I'd put that Borg regenerator thingy though...:D

If I seem like a complete idiot with my reply, it's bcos I am still waiting for iBurst to behave so I can read the article...:(
...
This is the prediction of British Telecoms (BT) futurist Ian Pearson, addressing the Futurex 2005 conference in Sandton via a live satellite link last week.
...
Wait a minute, is this the same video conferencing presentation that was supposed to be delivered via several of Telkomonopoly's ISDN lines...? What happened then, they decided there's more bandwidth available via satelite than ISDN which can be used for remote surgery...wait ASASA.org.za banned that Telkomonopoly advert bcos it was false advertising...

I'm betting it was pre-recorded and delivered via DVD. I mean really. Who would know the difference? Smoke and mirrors you know...
