Anyone know if you can convert a contract to prepaid before the contract period is actually up?
I dont mind paying the remainder of the contract, but want to keep my number

Yes you can cancel the contract and as part of that process ask them to convert to prepaid. If you're on Vodacom perhaps Ockie can sort you out

Why not just let the contract run out?

Nobody is going to steal your number when the contract is over it simply reverts to a month-to-month contract.

Because the OP might want to change their service provider before it expires

This is exactly it. Moved to Cell C, but obviously want to keep my number.
thanks for the advice, will give that a try

I asked about this a while ago.

I think the easiest would be to convert the number to prepaid and getting a new number for the contract.

It does mean for X months you will pay 2 contracts....
