I would like to know if this is at all possible?
I have a spare phone that raked up quite a bit of airtime since I never use it to make calls, and I would like to know if it is possible to convert this airtime to data?

It's on a MTN mycall100 contract.

You could do a m2u airtime transfer to another sim then buy data.

Not possible

You cant do anything with that airtime, except use it for calls or OOB data, MTN sucks. You cant even buy value added services like BIS. I tried with airtime from a Topup 200.

Buy a 75 MB bundle which will add R49 to your bill.
Then the OOB rate will be 65c/MB giving you about 1000 MB to use.
If this is not a topup contract, the risk is if you go over R600 airtime, you start paying extra again.

And a while ago they still had this funny rule that you could only use a percentage of your airtime for data, else you get billed extra, regardless of whether there was airtime left.

Perhaps call 808 to confirm this.

I have been using vodacom top up contract from 4 years. And i am buying the data using the top up aitime every month without problems.

Bit of an old thread..will try my luck anyway

Got over R1100 topup airtime on my mtn contract which i will be cancelling end of August. I see it is not possible to convert it to data or give it to someone. I do not want to just let mtn take it, so does anyone know of charities that use sms donations?

You can use it to pay for a Simfy subscription.

I have over R4300 airtime on a company phone... MTN refuse to let me change it into data, or otherwise transfer it.
I spent the whole of Monday morning fiddling with this, even dug up old threads on MyBB.

Well, for those playing League of Legends can buy goodies from the store with your airtime.
