OK, so I have a doctor friend who has a very old XP PC in his rooms.
He uses it to record videos of his medical procedures using some proprietary software that he licensed a long time ago.
So now this PC is very old. IDE hard drives. and has run out of space.
I want to convert the entire old XP installation to a virtual machine and move it to a newer windows 7 PC.
I am going to try free VMware vCenter Converter to do this according to various website tutorials.

My question is... will the camera recording software still interface with the new PC through the USB ports to the Virtual machine?
Will there be driver issues?

I can't vouch for VMware, but I know USB pass-through definitely works in VirtualBox.

There shouldn't be, as you already have the drivers installed in XP, right?

Where do you live? I might be able to hook you up with a brand spanking new sealed XP CD and key

Yes. It's all working in there.

Guys I don't think XP is the problem here, that video recording software is...

Does this software have a name perhaps then I can Google for you

FYI: the Virtual [XP] PC built into Windows 7 doesn't require a key.

It's not the key that I am worried about, the XP is already licensed.
It's the camera recording software.... I want to know if it will still work in the virtual machine through the USB ports and keep doing what it is already doing.

I don't know offhand. I'm going back to his office in a few hours.
He did say that a new license for Win7 is about 6 grand, so that's why he wants to keep using his old license.
It's working for him as is... except that this old PC is about to die any day now.
