Converting Word 2003 DOC to Word 2007

That's my wife to me. I recently upgraded from Office 2003 on my XP to Office 2007 on Windows 7 and my wifes DOC. files open in gibberish. Can anyone advise me how to convert these. They apparently open OK in her womans club on Office 2010 but not on this machine.
Anyone on the Forum help me out of the DWANG?

Thank you for responding with help, however it turned out that the files were opening in Notepad by default and were fine once I switched to Word.

Not sure why you are having a problem, Office 2007 supports .doc perfectly fine.
