Convicted king plans independent state

From the News24 article:
"With effect from the 06/January/2010 technically the South African government will not have jurisdiction over the land that belongs to AbaThembu...It is anticipated that the South African government will finance all the transitional arrangements," said Majola.

A source within the Zulu monarch, who wished to remain anonymous, said that the attempts by Majola signify the "last kicks of a dying horse".

The whole thing is a joke, but so are News24's standards.

I seriously hope they go ahead and try to form their own country, just to see what they will do when the army shows up.

You can't successful secceede(sp?) unless the people living on the land want to go with you, I.E. all the larger land owners such as business etc.

Relax chaps it will never happen. The closest thing we will actually get to succession is a civil/tribal war. That chance is ultra-ultra slim.

Probably have some political blowout, maybe some violent protests and thats about it.

The real scary thing is how much power these people think they have or should have.

Yep.

An individual needs to die. To save all humanity. Step forward all royalty...

Oh c'mon! You won't feel a thing....and you will enter that special place just for kings...

That's it...

If these idiots really want to leave, I say the further the better, like antartica maybe.:D

Trust some dum*ss to think he can take over 60% of SA and everyone else is going to be happy with it.

Apparently the Witness has WoW players to write its headlines... http://tweetphoto.com/7221596

ROFLMAO! :D

"Rouge clan?"

I can see the first paragraph now, "It has come to our attention that a clan of men and ladies of negotiable affection have undertaken to secede from South Africa, should their demands not be met, creating their own independent state."

*bawls with laughter*

:D

Thanks for sharing that, chiskop! Awesome :3

Which of these is the correct story ?

Tribe wants independence from SA
Regan Thaw | 7 Hours Ago

An Eastern Cape tribe on Wednesday accused government of marginalising its people.

The Abathembu approached Parliament, declaring its independence from South Africa.

Leaders showed they were not joking because they stated their claim to five provinces and parts of Gauteng.

Their intention was to declare it the Independent State of Thembuland.

Ignore propaganda, tribe says
Cape Town - The king of the abaThembu has decided to suspend plans to declare independence and place a large swathe of South Africa under tribal rule, supporters said on Wednesday.

King Dalindyebo, who is appealing a 15-year prison sentence, reached the decision after receiving a letter from President Jacob Zuma, his representative, lawyer Votani Majola, told reporters in Cape Town.

Majola described Zuma's letter as "a response that we welcome" but declined to disclose its contents.

The presidency could not confirm the existence of the letter.

Majola heads the Justice for King Dalindyebo Campaign, which a fortnight ago made public the king's "executive decision to withdraw from the South African government" on Wednesday and set up the state of Thembuland.

Pushing ahead with govt pay demand

It would include all of KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern, Western and Northern Cape as well as parts of Gauteng and the Free State, in line with the "pre-colonial boundaries" of the tribe's land.

Johannesburg would be part of the new state.

Though this plan was now on hold, the task team driving the campaign would push ahead with a demand that the government pay Dalindyebo R900m and the tribe a further R80bn in compensation for the humiliation caused by the monarch's criminal trial.

This was spoken of on SAFM radio tonight.

It actually sounds like Votani Majola the lawyer is a bit of a nutter and he did this of his own accord, and apparently is the same guy who tried to get a court interdict to prevent the Limpopo ANC meeting/thingy from happening.

There still hasn't been an official statement by the king in person.

Another Abuthembi tribesmans came on air and said this was a complete joke, and ask who the hell these people think they are, in speaking for the whole Abuthembi people.

He said he now walks in shame as other people laugh at him.

Not even the Abuthembi want to succeed! :)

I dunno hey, i have read a bit about this and it seems it could be a real problem.

If they did go through with it, i read it would be a declaration of war.

They won't do anything without support of the supposed 10 million people. Not one of the people who phoned into to SAFM to comment on this, supported the threat, and they were all "black" if I can use such a term?

Not even the one guy who said he is descended from tribal royalty took this threat seriously. His words were, "This is a joke."

When they finally declare their war and rally in the hills, they will realise there's only three of them :p
Sounds like the king is desperate for power, and can't face the fact that he actually has none.

yes, 10 people phoned in and said that.

but there are 999 999 990 mentally challenged individuals that would still vote for him. :(

If the Abuthembiu tribe are about 1/5th of SA population than chances are 2 out of those 10 callers were from the tribe. I know one was and he thought this was a complete joke and he was embarrassed to be an Abuthembi member and thus associated with this claim.

Also there is apparantly a legal body to deal with tribal/cultural matters (As tribal culture is recognised in our consitution) and one of the members of this board was a guest on the show.

He said no formal meeting to discuss or propose this was held by the tribesman in question.

Again, the statemant was made by his this Majola lawyer. The king has not himself said anything. No one is sure the king even wants this as they cannot confirm whether the king told the lawyer to present this to the president.

At present we are just taking the lawyers words for it, and the guests(One guy was an expert on tribal matters) on SAFM basically said this guy is a bit strange and we should not take him seriously.

The guests also said the Abuthembi nation does not have "rightful" ownership of 60% of SA. They said the bloodlines are so diluted to the point where technically 10 million people do have Abuthembi ancestors somewhere down the line, but you might be able to argue that most people could have an ancestral link to some kind of nobility somewhere in the world if you go back far enough.

Thus they said there is no claim to 60% of land, its not even recognised in terms of tribal heritage.

If he did not agree to what the lawyer was saying then surely he would speak up and not let his lawyer make a fool of him. From the articles that have come up this king does not seem smart himself, considering his crimes and his behaviour in court.
Anyway, I agree that this should not be taken seriously :)
