My interests lie more in the web browser gaming of the future 
I am quite impressed by some of them and I think with better broadband for us and more support it has a strong future and will one day be on a par with shelf games as it has come such a long way in a short amount of time.
To name some free ones I am playing at the moment:
Intersteller Marines (in development but training modes are playable) - long download time
Quake Live - long download time initially
Freeciv (Linux game that now has a port into browser)
Evony (Somewhat contraversial with their ad's lol and not everyone's cup of tea but has a strong community and strong history and ties with players) - I have not tried Evony II yet.
