Cool Ideas Doesn't Want Its Router Back?

Many of the home routers have vulnerabilities that are compromised to be used in botnets to launch attacks. But the code to hack someone's encrypted banking session won't fit on them.
Best place to start is use Quad 9. Huge benefit, zero cost.

so someone is collecting thousands of CISP routers, backdooring them, sending them back to CISP?

thought these botnets ran in memory... or do they have a way of writing to disk for persistence?

No, you misunderstood me. The process that any ISP would execute would be better than the average user buying one off the shelf from a shop. The ones in the shops have the backdoors as they would not have the vulnerabilities mitigated while an ISP would at least do that by hopefully updating the firmware.
I am not aware of someone replacing a router's code to attack an individual user. Would love to see that being achieved on a R400 home router.

The entire point is about someone returning a router to CISP, and CISP issuing them back to customers. Not consumer router's in general.
 
Ok, I'm not going to go all in, but routers can be compromised on many levels, causing many different issues.
exactly a new sealed router doesnt guarantee safety so I didnt stress about it. As I said to me it makes sense to recycle routers provided its done properly
 
When I signed up with CISP, they insisted upon giving me a router despite me having a better one that I planned to use. I told them about it and they said keep the router, its yours. So I kept it, thought I might use it one day, but it stayed in the cupboard for a good year or two.

When I cancelled, they asked for it back. I was like, I thought you said it was mine to keep? You didn't say anything about wanting it back!

Luckily I had kept but, but CISPs messaging on this is anything but clear.

i have only 1 Lan port on mine while my girlfriend have at least 4 if i remember correctly.

What model? We never supplied a router with 1 LAN port.
