Sure, I got that, but maybe an Octotel user can do the same for us.


Anyhow, decision made. Our engineers will implement DHCP as a "backstop" for those that would want to give it a go.

At least the IP won't change, and it won't be a hard PPPoE reset, but I suspect we will just see periods of 100 pct packetloss

High ping to Cloudflare DNS server, incorrect geolocation (I stay in PTA so JHB sure but CPT is way off) and poor PSN speeds (I can't get above 120Mbps on a 500Mbps connection)

Holy Batman! I dont think I have the right to complain anymore. That is insane!

They should just redo the entire fibre install. Not even Octotel's network can be that bad.

Do you have neighbours with fibre too? Stable for them?

Have you eliminated every single point of failure from your 'house' to the CPE? Different routers, etc. Checked settings like 'dial on demand' ?

Edit: Maybe @TheRoDent can send you one of those special boxes they have to analyze lines? IIRC it was @image132 that had one?

I have. We're on router number 2, and ONT number 3. We tried both with and without the range extender as well. Month number 4 of this

It's a nightmare at the moment, but let's please remove the range extender completely.Although it shouldnt matter considering the sessions are dropping right?

If the PPP is dropping at router level the extender doesn't matter, but I would get rid of it anyway. Rather run a cable and AP or something mesh

I get you but we also can't control the performance of CDNs, those just prove you have the correct throughput local and international. You are using our DNS?

I hear you, but at this point the extender is not a pressing issue. Having any kind of stable connection is my main concern.

Without seeing where the source of the traffic is coming from there isn't much we can do as an ISP. Try with our DNS and see if there is any variance? But you clearly have the throughput available to any peering point or international destination.

When doing a download you can PM me, ideally using L2TP and we can trace the traffic if you like.
