Hey guys, a buddy of mine upgraded his entire system to a nice duel core with a 9600GT etc, problem was the machine kept rebooting.

I gave him an old 300W as a temp fix, well it worked, up until a few days ago, he said it died, so he bought a 600W PSU, problem is, the machine turns on, the fan spins very fast for about 3 seconds, then shuts down, no POST screen, no nothing, it repeats this process then just stays quiet.

Could be CPU temp, sinks not firmly attatched, paste etc, but its fine.

Could it be a bad Mobo? Its an Asus btw.

Borrow another PSU, replace and test. Should at least tell you whether it's the PSU at fault here or not. :)

Elimination :) like ur style man, dude yea well 3 PSU's later im going to go right ahead and say its the bloody motherboard lol.

It's what I'd do, personally ;) That style has worked for me thus far :D

It can be any number of things, though the motherboard is as good a guess as any. You could always borrow him your motherboard to test... :p
