Cooling for overclocking

I would say water cool the cpu and gpu ...nice case with lotsa air flow and you should be away ...

Thanks for all the advice.

Pushed by cpu to 3.9ghz just by changing the multiplier.

Is it safe to leave it like that without any extra cooling. My cpu temp isn't rising high while gaming.
Or is there not much of a point of taking it from 3.5 to 3.9?

Anyone have a guide on overclocking a gpu?

Only thing annoying me on my set up is that I can't get to 60fps on arma 3 on ultra graphics. That's all I want Haha.

Keep an eye on your temps just to be on the safe side.

Which make and model 970 do you have?

Download MSI afterburner so long, it will also give you on screen display options for cpu/gpu temps, fps, usage etc.

Arma is just one of those badly optimised games unfortunately so don't expect miracles. Even a 980 is gonna struggle to give you 60fps maxed out. You'll see why once we get afterburning running and pop some info onto your screen.

Have a look at http://day0.com.au/forum/arma/638-arma-3-performance-tweaks-and-settings-guide

My cpu temp is like 45c even after like an hour of gaming so think it's doing alright.
My voltage is on auto so I think it was automatically raised to somewhere near 1.2v. Would it be safer to lock my voltage down and stop it from adapting on it's own.

I've heard that you can't really come across any overclocking issues when u don't touch the voltage and keep an eye on core temp.

I have an MSI gtx 970 gaming.
Would overclocking a gpu have the same principles as a cpu. Like if u only touch the multiplier and leave voltage alone, the only thing you need to keep an eye on is the gpu temp?

Download unigine valley & heaven to test for stability/artifacts & benchmarking. You should be able to get your boost clock to >1500 and you mem clock to >7800
Oh get GPU-Z to check your base clocks so you have a reference point for how much you have to add.

Monitor cpu & gpu temps, utilisation, mem & core speeds, vram & mem usage ingame with msi afterburners on screen display.

Leave your cpu as it is.

i got a h55 AIO it works grat temps stay at around 60-70*c oced (stress test)to 4.1Ghz can get lower if i delit it

but yah any cheap aftermarket cooler will work a ton better than the stock intel if u can spend +-R300 on a cpu cooler
u can easaly oc it to where u want

u can rather invest in a GPU cooler and OC that, will gain more fps that way than ocing the cpu
