I need to keep my laptop cool when playing games. i already have cooling fan thingy but it doesnt seem to be working good enough. I can play a game such as Rainbow6 - vegas 2 and the laptop wont shutdown, but when i play COD5 for more than 5-10min it shutsdown.

Any ideas on what to get? I have a 15" Dell XPS.

Yes, thats it. Could for the life of me not remember what it was called....

Which model cooler do you have? Perhaps there is a better one. Although I'm not so sure it's going to solve your problem. Have you Googled for overheating problems with your laptop? What model is it and what graphics does it have?

Its the Dell 1530 XPS and it has an Nvidia9600 graphics card.....

Not sure about the model of the cooler but it has 2 fans and is the same size as the laptop.

i will try and find a pic of the cooler.

Eish, those 9xxx Nvidias run hot. I know of quite a few being returned.

What's the size of the fans?

Perhaps something with big fans like this could help (around R430):

Vantec LapcooL pro LPC-P100 , 17" notebook cooler , aluminum , 2 x 120mm fan , with 3-port USB 2.0 Hub , adjustable speed - 800-2500rpm , size : 409x47.5x278mm - powered by ac-adapter

This looks like the answer to my problem as the cooler i have gets its power from my pc usb and the fans are quite small.

check the latest pcformat, i think there is an article on how to do (although it will most probably void your guarantee) a mod cooling for your laptop

I know you have a laptop and want to game on it but i would suggest you maybe buy a pc if can afford one to play games rather.

An entry level system with 19" monitor should not set you back more than 5k i would imagine, well that is if you have money to spare of course.

i have a desk top at home, but its a bit broken at the moment.... issues with the usb, not wanting to work and cash is a bit tight to fix it. Bu i cant see why i cant play on the laptop(it is afterall a gaming laptop) as its got more than enough RAm a decent processor and a decent graphics card. its just the heat issue........ otherwise its fine.

Considered taking it back?

Zalman ZM-NC1000 Silver for 15"

Hi guys,
I am looking for a cooler for my laptop. On The Prophecy Shop website, the above is listed. It says "powered by usb + USB downstream port". Does this mean I get another USB port to replace the one used by the cooler?

Then, just to be sure, the 15" referred to means the screen size?

While I am asking questions, any recommendations for a USB hub? Needs to be powered to be any good, right?

Thanks.
