I am moving houses next week and contacted Telkom today to get my line moved and get ADSL installed at the new place. Apparently they're not doing any new ADSL installs for the area because they're moving from copper to fibre...

The area does not have even have LTE coverage and in turn I am left wondering what my options really are...

Has anyone got an idea on the turnover time usually for these coppy/fibre transitions that are apparently taking place?

Earliest end of the year, but are you sure it is for your area? Easiest would be to go to where they are working and ask them.

Just got back from the Telkom store, where I went to query it and the problem seems far greater than just that. Apparently they can't do any more ADSL installs for anyone in Somerset West because the exchange has no more free ports. They have no idea when it will be resolved either...

Send your request via PM to user TelkomZA here on mybb.

Thanks, sent one a few hours ago... Hopefully something can be done.

I can't believe that an entire town can't get ADSL installed as was told to me. I could also understand if I didn't currently have an active ADSL line, but the fact that I do, and still can't get the line moved to a location 3km down the road seems strange to me.

Either way it's endlessly frustrating... Considering just sleeping in the street close to an open wifi spot - would probably be preferable.

If the first 3 digits of the phone numbers are the same then they have no excuse.

Did you apply for a new service or transfer of service?

Thanks for your input MickeyD, that's where the one issue may come in though. The house that I'm moving to, has a line installed - but the previous owners took their number with them. So I think I'm unable to fill out an online request since while that house has a physical line, it has no telephone number that I can use in the forms :S

You can do the online form - you don't need the other number, just your current number and the two addresses.
