Well done to the Senior SAPS official.
Eight Gauteng metro police officers were caught stealing alcohol which had fallen from an SAB truck on the N12 outside Potchefstroom on Thursday, North West police said.
The officers, aged between 25 and 39, were found loading “volumes” of liquor into their official vehicles by a senior SAPS officer, spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Lesego Metsi said in a statement.
According to the truck driver the tarpaulin covering the trailer was blown off in transit and pallets of alcohol fell onto the road. The driver called the metro police after other motorists indicated to him he was losing part of his load.
“It is alleged that instead of the police assisting the crew by stopping other road uses from taking the liquor, the police started taking liquor for themselves.”
They were caught loading the alcohol into their official vehicles by a high-ranking SAPS officer.
Backup was called and the officers were arrested. They would appear in the Potchefstroom Magistrate's Court soon. -
