Johannesburg - Two members of the Benoni Flying Squad rescued Jesse, a hijacked sausage dog, and one of them took care her until she could be reunited with her owners, Beeld reported on Friday.

Warrant Officer Morne Jonker and his colleague, Constable Tefo Khahlise on Wednesday night followed the Tracker signal of a car stolen in Rooihuiskraal, Centurion.

According to police spokeswoman Captain Pinky Tsinyane, they found the Volkswagen Polo in Tembisa, with a shivering Jesse staring out of the back window.

Jonker notified the owners of the car, and offered to take care of their dog until the next morning. The owner, Andrew Beet, 48, had gone to empty his postbox in Rooihuiskraal, Centurion, on Wednesday night when he was held at gunpoint by “a very friendly man who said he was going to take my car now”.

Beet's other dog, Wally, also a dachshund, was kicked out of the car before the criminal drove off, but Jesse was thought to have hidden under the seat.

Beet and his partner Eleanor Momberg were overjoyed to be reunited with Jesse on Thursday, and said they could not thank the police enough. - Sapa

My wife would poop herself if something happened to our daschund like that.

I hope someone says to the hijacker in a very polite way - I'm going to take your life now. and I hope it happens soon.

It feels like this is the picture we always use to have of cops, all around good guys that everyone was scared of and respected that did these deeds together with putting their lives on the line to protect us, it's so sad that that picture, in my mind at least, have been tarnished by lazy, corrupt, incompetent, arrogant, hard-handed full of themselves bullies. But it really makes you realise there are still some really good guys out there who is just given a bad name by a few idiots.
