Well that sucks
How big is the hdd in the new decoder?
It is possible to increase the HDD of the decoder, you just need to partition the hard drive in to about 3 parts i think, i am not sure of the exact split as each decoder is differnt but its more or less 10 gig for software, 20 gig for OD and the rest is for recording. of course the stufffs up warntyNo idea. I didn't enable the pvr function, I only bought this decoder for HD. There's a thread here somewhere about how to upgrade the HDD to a larger size to gain more capacity, but I don;t know if the same can be don on the baby HD pvr. I suppose it's possible, but I'm not doing it
I record via my Media Center PC. Yes, I can only record in SD, but I'm not paying the R65/m. I can currently record up to 400hours and can easily add more HDD's if needed.

In most countries PACE and UEC decoders are far more stable and reliable. This is because their firmware and software are professionally written by their own in-house teams who have decades of experience. Now comes Multichoice, who insist on using their own software people, who are in the “Little League” as far as skills and experience are concerned…and thus the reason why many of the problems South African customers are experiencing with their PVR’s are not happening overseas. Multichoice could easily use the in-house tried and tested software…. but they arrogantly wish to impose their own inferior solution on SA. I believe that both PACE and UEC have tried in vein to get Multichoice to use the default software, but to no avail!multichoice doesn't want you messing with their stuff... even if you paid for it.![]()
Are there plans for the baby hd to have the usb and ethernet ports activated?
Then maybe you can access the hard drive and use some sort of program to remove the encryption.
Hauppage have an hd pvr recorder that allows you to record hdtv from any box apparently.
You need to use a media centre pc or dvd recorder to record from the hd pvr which plays back the recorded program, however the HD PVR uses CGMS-A copy protection which only allows a copy once to be performed by a media centre pc or dvd recorder. If your media centre pc or dvd recorder does not support this then you are buggered or have to use something like a grex to remove the copy protection. I use a grex and it works perfectly.
I've just done some research and ordered the bits and pieces: "How to build your own 500GB HDD recorder (PVR) for under R1,850 (US$280)"

Don't think so. MC have been adding additional protection layers...Cool! I wonder if we add grex to the equation, can we get it to sit on top of an HD PVR?
